The Swans tells the story of acclaimed writer Truman Capote, once a confidante to society\u2019s most elite women, whom he nicknamed \u201cthe swans.\u201d However, his act of betrayal effectively destroyed those relationships, banished him from high society and sent him into a spiral of self-destruction from which he would ultimately never recover. All eight episodes were directed by Gus Van Sant.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"cutid1\"\/>Cast and characters: <\/p>\n<p>Naomi Watts as Babe Paley<br \/>Barbara Paley, known as &#8220;Babe,&#8221; was a former Vogue editor who married CBS founder William S. Paley.<\/p>\n<p>Chlo\u00eb Sevigny as CZ Guest<br \/>Once featured on the cover of Time magazine, CZ Guest was regarded as a member of America\u2019s high society. She was also known for her work as a stage actress, author and columnist, and garnered some fame as a fashion icon.<\/p>\n<p>Calista Flockhart as Lee Radziwill<br \/>Lee Radziwill was a socialite and public-relations executive, who was also the younger sister of First Lady Jackie Kennedy. After marrying Prince Stanis\u0142aw Albrecht Radziwi\u0142\u0142, she became a princess and had a son named Anthony, who eventually married journalist and future Real Housewives of New York star Carole Radziwill.<\/p>\n<p>Diane Lane as Slim Keith<br \/>Nancy &#8220;Slim&#8221; Keith was a socialite known for her Hollywood connections, including discovering Lauren Bacall by showing her picture to producer and husband Howard Hanks. <\/p>\n<p>Demi Moore as Ann Woodward<br \/>Ann Woodward was a prominent figure in New York high society thanks to her marriage to banking heir William Woodward Jr. She was later suspected of murder after she mistakenly shot and killed him in 1955. The incident was fictionalized in Capote\u2019s novel Answered Prayers, with him accusing her of intentionally murdering Woodward. Prior to the \u201cLa C\u00f4te Basque\u201d (an excerpt from Answered Prayers) being published in Esquire, she lj-spoiler&gt;died by suicide .  <\/p>\n<p>Molly Ringwald as Joanne Carson<br \/>Joanne Carson was the second wife of Johnny Carson. She became friends with Capote after he started writing a book about the late-night TV host. The two become such good friends that he reportedly died in her arms before half of his ashes would come into her possession. <\/p>\n<p>Tom Hollander as Truman Capote<br \/>Truman Capote was an esteemed novelist and writer, who gained notoriety for his work on Breakfast at Tiffany\u2019s and In Cold Blood. As his popularity grew, so did his celebrity status, which was cemented by his high society and Hollywood friends, many of which included the women he would later draw inspiration from for his anticipated follow-up to In Cold Blood.<\/p>\n<p>Joe Mantello as John Dunphy<br \/>Capote&#8217;s partner, John Dunphy, was an American novelist and playwright. He was also a trained ballet dancer who toured with George Balanchine. He and his wife, fellow dancer Joan McCracken, appeared in the original Broadway production of Oklahoma. He was the chief beneficiary named in Truman&#8217;s will. <\/p>\n<p>Ella Beatty (daughter of Warren Beatty and Annette Bening) as Kerry O\u2019Shea<br \/>Kerry O\u2019Shea is the daughter of John O\u2019Shea, Truman\u2019s longtime lover. Truman later changed Kerry\u2019s name to Kate Harrington. Estranged from both her parents, Kate is taken under Truman\u2019s wing as his prot\u00e9g\u00e9e. He introduces her to both the exhilaration of fashion, modeling, art, and literature, as well as the heartbreak of watching another parental figure fall into a decline.  <\/p>\n<p>Chris Chalk as James Baldwin<br \/>James Baldwin is a celebrated novelist, poet and activist, coming into his own during the civil rights and gay liberation movements. During his writing career, he had encounters with Capote, who often recounted their run-ins as one-off anecdotes at parties.<\/p>\n<p>Treat Williams as William Paley<br \/>William Paley founded CBS.
