The flagship <em>NCIS<\/em> show was actually <em>JAG<\/em>, which debuted on NBC in 1995.<\/p>\n<p>The series followed military lawyers in the Department of the Navy\u2019s Office of the Judge Advocate General who could prosecute and defend criminal cases under the code of military justice. NBC canceled the show after one season, but CBS picked it up.<\/p>\n<p>The original drama, which starred <strong>David James Elliott<\/strong> and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/catherine-bell\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong> Catherine Bell<\/strong><\/a>, introduced Jethro Gibbs (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-news\/news\/pauley-perrette-is-terrified-of-former-ncis-costar-mark-harmon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Mark Harmon<\/strong><\/a>) and his team in the eighth season finale in 2003.
