According to Kelly Clarkson<\/strong><\/a>, spending more quality time with her kids<\/a> since moving to New York City has helped her lose weight.<\/p>\n

\u201cWalking in the city is quite the workout,\u201d Clarkson, 41, shared in an interview with People<\/em><\/a> published on Wednesday, January 3. \u201cAnd I\u2019m really into infrared saunas right now. And I just got a cold plunge because everybody wore me down.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clarkson, who shares daughter River, 9, and son Remington, 7, with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock<\/strong>, said she stays active by exploring NYC with her kids during her downtime. \u201cWe go walk the dogs a few times at the park. We\u2019ll go for ice cream because my daughter will wear me down,\u201d she stated. \u201cWe\u2019ll go make slime and we\u2019ll go to the museum.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to hanging out with her kids, Clarkson explained: \u201cI dropped weight<\/a> because I\u2019ve been listening to my doctor \u2014 a couple years I didn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n

She cited eating a \u201chealthy mix\u201d of foods. \u201cAnd 90 percent of the time, I\u2019m really good at it because a protein diet is good for me anyway,\u201d she added. \u201cI\u2019m a Texas girl, so I like meat \u2014 sorry vegetarians in the world!\u201d<\/p>\n

Two months after her and Blackstock\u2019s divorce was settled<\/a> in March 2022, Clarkson announced that she was moving both her family and The Kelly Clarkson Show<\/em><\/a> from Los Angeles to NYC. The move was done for both her and her kids\u2019 \u201cmental health,\u201d Clarkson told the outlet, explaining she had \u201cjust been showing up and smiling and doing what I\u2019m supposed to do, but you can only compartmentalize so long until you break.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the time, a source exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em><\/a> that Clarkson was \u201creally excited for this next chapter and looking forward to a fresh start\u201d on the East Coast.<\/p>\n

In October 2023, the Grammy winner admitted she thought the move was a \u201chorrible decision\u201d<\/a> at first, telling USA Today<\/em><\/a>, \u201cI really wanted to be in Montana, but you can\u2019t really do a show from there quite yet. So I was like, \u2018The only other option would probably be New York.\u201d<\/p>\n

Everything ultimately worked out as Clarkson added that she and her kids \u201cgenuinely love\u201d their place in NYC. \u201cI was like, \u2018I\u2019m not living here unless it\u2019s right by the park and really nice for the kids.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Over the years, Clarkson has been open and honest with fans about her career and personal life, becoming a champion for body positivity with her candid quotes about gaining and losing weight.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always had to be like \u2014 stand strong for myself with my body image in the public eye,\u201d she said while chatting with Serena Williams<\/strong> on a November 2020 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show<\/em><\/a>, adding, \u201cI feel like I have to keep talking about it every once in a while and stand up. I try to do it in a comedic way and keep it light, but well, sometimes you just gotta shut [haters] down.\u201d<\/p>\n

Back in June 2018, Clarkson revealed in an interview with Today<\/em><\/a> that she lost weight after adopting a \u201cnon-GMO, no pesticides diet\u201d to help manage \u201can autoimmune disease and a thyroid problem.\u201d She explained to Hoda Kotb<\/strong>: \u201cI know the industry loves the weight gone, but for me, it wasn\u2019t really [about] the weight. For me, it was, \u2018I\u2019m not on my medicine anymore.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

More recently, stood up for herself against her ex-husband, accusing him<\/a> of telling her she wasn\u2019t \u201csexy\u201d enough to join The Voice<\/em>. In court documents obtained by The New York Post<\/em><\/a> on Tuesday, January 2, Clarkson claimed that her then-spouse, who was also her talent manager at the time, tried to deter her from joining the competition series by stating NBC was \u201clooking for more of a sex symbol\u201d to fill the role.<\/p>\n
