A legen \u2014 wait for it \u2014 dary tribute! How I Met Your Father<\/em><\/a> has introduced its audience to new characters and storylines \u2014 but the Hulu series continues to honor its predecessor, How I Met Your Mother<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n The OG sitcom, which aired on CBS from 2005 to 2014, followed Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor<\/strong><\/a>) and his group of friends in New York City as they attempted to find happiness in their personal and professional lives<\/a>. In the series, Ted recalled his past to his future son and daughter as a way to explain how he met their mother.<\/a><\/p>\n How I Met Your Mother<\/em> also starred Jason Segel<\/strong><\/a>, Cobie Smulders<\/strong><\/a>, Neil Patrick Harris<\/strong><\/a>, Alyson Hannigan<\/strong><\/a> and Cristin Milioti<\/strong><\/a>. Meanwhile, the voiceover for Future Ted was done by Bob Saget<\/a>.<\/p>\n Creators Carter Bays<\/strong> and Craig Thomas<\/strong> ultimately did not return for the show\u2019s spinoff How I Met Your Father<\/em><\/a> in 2022. Bays, however, did receive an executive producer credit for the Hulu show.<\/p>\n How I Met Your Father<\/em>, which was released in January 2022, explores Sophie (Hilary Duff<\/strong><\/a>) and her friends\u2019 lives in Manhattan. In this gender-swap version of the story, Future Sophie (Kim Cattrall<\/strong><\/a>) recounts to her son the events that led to her meeting his father.<\/a><\/p>\n The spinoff show also stars Christopher Lowell, Francia Raisa<\/a>, Suraj Sharma, Tom Ainsley <\/strong>and Tien Tran<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Since its release, only Smulders has reprised her role as Robin to offer Sophie some advice<\/a> about her dating life. (In the HIMYM<\/em> finale, Robin finally married Barney (Harris) but the couple quickly called it quits. The news anchor later reunited with her ex Ted (Radnor) \u2014 which left many fans disappointed<\/a>.)<\/p>\n Although Harris hasn\u2019t returned as Barney yet, he previously showed his support for the series.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cI hope it\u2019s great. I think the structural conceit of that show was very good storytelling,\u201d the Emmy winner exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> in September 2021. \u201c[Creators] Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, they came up with a really cool idea that future narrator is telling kids a story about their past. It allows for quick edit cuts. It allows for embellishments within character\u2019s development because it\u2019s a story that he\u2019s telling. It\u2019s not the actual factual things that happened. And so, morals can be heavy handed. There can be left turns that you weren\u2019t expecting. We had a great time filming that show.\u201d<\/p>\n Ahead of HIMYF\u2019s second season premiere, Radnor hinted that he wouldn\u2019t mind making an appearance on the show<\/a>. \u201cI had a really sweet email exchange with Hilary Duff,\u201d he told Newsweek<\/em> in January 2023. \u201cWe kind of went back and forth about being the \u2018I\u2019 on How I Met Your. She has said publicly [that] she would love to have me on, so I wouldn\u2019t turn down an invitation.\u201d<\/p>\n That same month, Duff confirmed another alum filmed scenes for season 2<\/a>. \u201cI think I might lose my job if I told you who, but we do have a special guest from the original cast coming this season,\u201d she said during an appearance on Good Morning American<\/em>. \u201cIt was a dream come true working with them. I think our dream would have the entire cast come through at some point.\u201d<\/p>\n
