John Ridley<\/strong> thinks his version of Marvel\u2019s Eternals<\/em> is superior to the 2021 blockbuster that made it to the big screen.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy version was the good version,\u201d Ridley said during a Tuesday, January 2, episode of the \u201cComic Book Club<\/a>\u201d podcast. \u201cIt was so f\u2013king weird. There was my version, a good version, which is good to me, which \u2014 that doesn\u2019t mean anything. There was the version that [Marvel] ended up doing, which I don\u2019t think \u2026 that version was particularly good. I\u2019ll be honest.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ridley, who wrote the screenplay for 12 Years a Slave<\/em>, explained that he was working on a Marvel series for ABC in 2015. The concept was based on the Eternals<\/em> comic series. The writer confessed the idea got scrapped and was \u201cnot in the works anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMy version started with, the first thing you see is a young man, probably about 18 years old,\u201d he explained about the pilot. \u201cAnd he\u2019s sitting there. He\u2019s sitting there for a moment. And then he lifts his hands. He has a drill in it. And he turns the drill on. And he puts the drill to his ear. And he starts pushing it in. And then it goes from there. That\u2019s the start, right? That\u2019s how it starts. And then I think you see \u2026 another kid \u2026 He sleeps in the bathtub, covers himself with foil. It\u2019s just a really weird story about these people who are, I mean, it\u2019s just weird.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe Marvel Cinematic Universe is always expanding. The superhero movie franchise will just keep growing in 2022 and beyond with these highly anticipated flicks. Spider-Man: No Way Home had Marvel fans on the edge of their seats ahead of its December 17 release, and that\u2019s not just because of the cast (which included past Spider-Man [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Academy Award winner admitted that his concept had mixed reviews and the Eternals<\/em> comic was a \u201creally hard property to develop.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe best thing to happen for everybody was that it didn\u2019t happen with me because I don\u2019t know that it would have been entertaining,\u201d Ridley confessed. \u201cAnd I do mean what\u2019s entertaining to me is often not entertaining. Populist, which is great for a lot of the work I do, but this needed to be a little bit more popular.\u201d<\/p>\n
