Kelly Clarkson<\/a> had a breakthrough following <\/span>her divorce<\/a> from Brandon Blackstock.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In a new interview with <\/span>People<\/a><\/em>, the <\/span>Kelly Clarkson Show<\/span><\/em> host says that she credits her music as a healthy outlet for her pain following her 2022 split.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Clarkson shares that she isn’t one to hold grudges, so she made sure all of her emotions were laid out in her latest album, <\/span>Chemistry<\/span><\/em>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n “I cannot express how appreciative I feel for having that kind of healthy outlet. Because the level of depression and things that come with divorce or grieving is extraordinarily hard. You feel alone, and it\u2019s just a blessing to be able to have that outlet for those emotions that are overwhelming,” she tells the magazine.<\/span><\/p>\n The 41-year-old <\/span>American Idol<\/span><\/em> alum says that the music helped her reclaim her power.<\/span><\/p>\n “I [was] like, ‘I\u2019m taking my power back,'” she notes. “That sounds very therapy, but that\u2019s because I love therapy, and I think it\u2019s important to have those tools to navigate your life and relationships.”<\/span><\/p>\n Clarkson filed for divorce from Blackstock — who also acted as her manager for a time — in 2020, after seven years of marriage. Following many legal and custodial setbacks, the pair’s divorce was finalized in March 2022.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n As part of the divorce agreement, Clarkson was ordered to pay Blackstock $1.3 million and contribute $45,000 per month in child support for their two children, River Rose, 9, and Remington, 7. Additionally, Blackstock was granted $115,000 per month in spousal support, set to conclude this month.<\/span><\/p>\n In November, the “Miss Independent” singer <\/span>obtained another legal victory<\/a> over Blackstock’s alleged overcharging when he was her manager.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Legal documents obtained by ET\u00a0reveal that Blackstock went beyond the bounds of his position by booking gigs and finalizing contracts for the star on platforms such as\u00a0<\/span>The Voice<\/span><\/i>, Norwegian Cruise Line, Wayfair, and as the host of the Billboard Music Awards.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The commissioner’s decision indicates that, with few exceptions, only agents are permitted to lawfully secure such roles for talent. As a result, Blackstock has been ordered to hand over commissions totaling over 2.6 million to Clarkson.<\/span><\/p>\n In November, the “You Don’t Make Me Cry” singer <\/span>spoke to ET<\/a> about her and her kids’ life since relocating from Los Angeles to New York City.<\/span><\/p>\n “We walk around in the park. Like, we have more of a life. This is what my goal was, for us to actually engage outside our house. And you have to in New York,” she said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
