Certain sports commentators might blame<\/a> singer Taylor Swift<\/strong> for the Kansas City Chiefs\u2019 string of failures, but they\u2019re clearly not the only ones ready to dish out contempt for the cultural and economic powerhouse. On Friday, famed author Anne Lamott<\/strong> tweeted what many see as a remark contemptuous of the popular singer, then tangled with fans angry at the comment.<\/p>\n The incident began with a since-deleted tweet from the 69-year-old Bird by Bird<\/em> author that read, \u201cI\u2019m so glad this year is almost over, and we won\u2019t have to read about Taylor Swift anymore.\u201d Presumably a joking acknowledgment of the 34-year-old billionaire\u2019s<\/a> Time Person of the Year<\/a> honor, it was swiftly interpreted by some of Lamott\u2019s 245.7K followers as a diss of the artist.<\/p>\n \u201cHate on another successful woman that cares about other humans ??? Shame on you !! So disappointed at you Anne Lamott,\u201d responded one. \u201cGoodbye, think you will be more comfortable somewhere else,\u201d Lamott said<\/a> as she quote-tweeted her erstwhile fan. \u201cYou take care, now,\u201d she wrote to another, who wrote<\/a>, \u201cHating anothers talents while expecting praise for your own is selfish.\u201d Countless other responses that expressed disappointment in the author went unresponded to.<\/p>\n As far as I know, Lamott\u2019s not a Chiefs fan, so\u2014unlike folks like<\/a> Fox Sports host Skip Bayless<\/strong> and OutKick founder and COVID conspiracy theorist<\/a> Clay Travis<\/strong>, she\u2019s not making the easily debunked<\/a> claim that Swift is somehow responsible when the team from Kansas City loses a game. Instead, she appears distressed that people are writing about the famous and influential woman as often as they do\u2014so distressed that instead of closing a tab or scrolling past headlines that fail to interest her, she headed to X (formerly Twitter) to complain.<\/p>\n Soon thereafter, Lamott deleted the controversial tweet and wrote,<\/a> \u201cVery sorry for snarky Taylor Swift comment. I probably got more angry response to this than for anything I\u2019ve tweeted in the ten years I\u2019ve been here. Note to self: try to do better.\u201d<\/p>\n I\u2019ll leave it to Lamott to determine how hard she\u2019s being ratioed, but if she\u2019d responded to my request for comment, I\u2019d ask how this compares to the reaction she received to her tweets about Caitlyn Jenner\u2019s<\/strong> groundbreaking 2015 interview with Vanity Fair<\/a>. \u201cIs it okay to be a tiny tiny bit tired of Caitlyn?\u201d Lamott asked then. \u201cYes, was very brave but so far he\u2019s gone from man to mannequin, instead of man to woman.\u201d<\/p>\n When her followers noted that Lamott had misgendered Jenner, she responded, \u201cWill call him a she when the pee-pee is gone.\u201d She apologized then (though some felt the apology was only partial<\/a>), and the incident became fodder for an essay<\/a> in her 2017 book, Hallelujah Anyway: Rediscovering Mercy.<\/em><\/p>\n Lamott will likely need some mercy on Sunday, when Swift is again in the news. That\u2019s because, as has been her wont during the winter break for her Eras Tour, the singer has been faithfully attending her boyfriend and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce\u2019s<\/strong> games.\u00a0<\/p>\n While neither Kelce nor Swift have confirmed her attendance at Sunday\u2019s Chiefs game against the Cincinnati Bengals (and requests for comment from Vanity Fair have not received a response), it seems quite likely<\/a> that she\u2019ll be in the Arrowhead Stadium stands for kickoff at 4:25 p.m. ET. on New Year\u2019s Eve.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
