\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n America Ferrara<\/strong><\/a> opened up in a new interview. <\/p>\n The 39-year-old actress has had a fantastic year, buoyed by the success of Barbie<\/em> and her viral monologue<\/a> in 2023\u2032s hottest movie. <\/p>\n She recently opened up about what set her role in the movie apart from most of the projects she\u2019s done in the past. America<\/strong> also weighed in on if the successful movie has led to more job offers. <\/p>\n Read more about America Ferrera\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n \u201cTo be frank: For the majority of my career, I have not been considered for roles that weren\u2019t written specifically Latina,\u201d America <\/strong>told The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>. \u201cThe gift of what Greta <\/strong>[Gerwig, Barbie director] offered me is that she actually did write the Barbie <\/em>part as Latina. I suspect that if she hadn\u2019t written it as such, I might not have been the person they went to.\u201d<\/p>\n She continued, explaining, \u201cHowever, even though the role was written Latina, it was not a Latina role. Being Latina was not the purpose of the character. She got to be a full human and representative of so many things. It wasn\u2019t a \u2018check the box\u2019 kind of casting.\u201d <\/p>\n Is Barbie<\/em> opening new doors for her? <\/p>\n \u201cI would be thrilled if this moment of being in highly visible films led to more opportunities for me to do the kinds of roles and create the kinds of stories that I want to, but that\u2019s hard to predict,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019ve had many moments in my career of wonderful successes that didn\u2019t necessarily lead to more opportunity.
