Colin Firth<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s moose sweater, or jumper, in Bridget Jones\u2019s Diary<\/em><\/a> is iconic, but he said wearing it on set wasn\u2019t a dream come true.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe set was lit at about 140 degrees Fahrenheit; it melted candles and desiccated the turkey curry,\u201d Firth, 63, recalled to Entertainment Weekly<\/em><\/a> in a resurfaced interview. \u201cI almost tore the jumper to pieces pulling it off between takes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Firth, who played Mark Darcy in the film franchise, joked, \u201cI probably lost about 15 pounds,\u201d confessing, \u201cI had little love for it by the end.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tTo Bridget, who cannot cook! Bridget Jones\u2019s Diary was a huge hit when it debuted in April 2001 \u2014 and its stars have only kept rising. Ren\u00e9e Zellweger, who played the titular diarist, had already turned in critically acclaimed performances in films including Jerry Maguire and Nurse Betty, but Bridget Jones\u2019s Diary arguably made her [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The actor famously wore the ugly jumper in the 2001 rom-com when his character first met Bridget Jones (Ren\u00e9e Zellweger<\/strong>) at a New Year\u2019s Day celebration.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe this was the mysterious Mr. Right I\u2019ve been waiting my whole life to meet,\u201d Bridget says in her head during the movie before Darcy turns around and she sees his bold jumper choice. \u201cMaybe not,\u201d she quips.<\/p>\n

The clothing item, which seemingly predated the trend of wearing ugly sweaters during the holidays, was also difficult to make, according to the film\u2019s director, Sharon Maguire<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe sent out the knitting challenge to approximately 20 or 30 knitters,\u201d Maguire previously told EW<\/em>. \u201cAt first, none of the designs worked. They were lovely, but they just weren\u2019t funny. So eventually we decided it had to be a moose, not a reindeer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Looking back, Firth revealed that he\u2019s not a fan of over-the-top festive sweaters. \u201cI have at times been unfairly blamed for subsequent surges in Christmas sweater sales,\u201d he shared. \u201cFor whatever reason, I tend to break a sweat at the sight of them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Firth then confessed, \u201cI never noticed it was a moose.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite having an uncomfortable shooting experience, Firth reprised his role in 2004\u2019s Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason<\/em> and 2016\u2019s Bridget Jones\u2019s Baby<\/em>.<\/p>\n
