Luke Macfarlane<\/strong><\/a> is spilling the tea about his holiday movie earnings \u2014 including whether Netflix or Hallmark Channel paid better.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou were in [Single All the Way <\/i>on Netflix], was the paycheck bigger [than Hallmark]?\u201d Daniel Tosh<\/strong> asked Macfarlane, 43, during a recent episode of his \u201cTosh Show\u201d<\/a> podcast.<\/p>\n

Macfarlane succinctly replied, \u201cSmaller.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actor, who played Michael Urie<\/strong>\u2019s love interest in the 2021 Netflix holiday film<\/a>, has been a Hallmark staple since 2015. Earlier this year, Macfarlane appeared in<\/a> Notes of Autumn <\/i>and Catch Me If You Claus.<\/i><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tIt was a banner year for Hallmark romances and mysteries, with the network dropping some of our all-time favorite made-for-TV movies before and during the Christmas season. Network staple Andrew Walker re-teamed with Nikki DeLoach twice in 2023 for new installments in their Curious Caterer series on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. (After costarring in Dying [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cSo, I\u2019ve had, like, sort of overall deals with [Hallmark where] I\u2019m gonna commit to five Christmas movies or five movies, but I can\u2019t work for any other networks and they can\u2019t be holiday-related movies,\u201d Macfarlane explained, noting he could sign onto Single All the Way <\/i>at the time because that was \u201coutside of my deal.\u201d<\/p>\n

After host Tosh, 48, asked if Hallmark pays well, Macfarlane nodded and confirmed that his \u201crate goes up\u201d for successive projects.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a nice thing,\u201d Macfarlane added before dropping a surprising truth about network residual checks.<\/a> \u201cThey have to air a certain amount of time before you start getting [any money]. As you know, they air them a lot. So, if you end up doing one of the ones that hits and is popular, it gets aired more and more. So, you eventually get residuals.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHallmark Channel movies often stick to a formula \u2014 and when it comes to similar character jobs, fans have noticed. \u201cMore than once, I\u2019ve been a pastry chef or a chef,\u201d Lacey Chabert exclusively told Us Weekly in October 2021. \u201cSo people always ask me like, \u2018Do you like to cook?\u2019 I actually, genuinely, love [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Tosh specifically asked if Macfarlane has seen any residuals come in for 2018\u2019s A Shoe Addict\u2019s Christmas<\/i>, a movie he made with Candace Cameron Bure<\/strong>. \u201cI don\u2019t know if I\u2019ve gotten [any],\u201d Macfarlane coyly added.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the podcast episode, Macfarlane noted that he was \u201cnervous to work with\u201d<\/a> Cameron Bure, 47, for the first time in A<\/i> Shoe Addict\u2019s Christmas<\/i>.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut, she could not have been more lovely,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Cameron Bure was another Hallmark mainstay before she opted to leave the network<\/a> for Great American Media. In a November 2022 interview with WSJ Magazine<\/i>, the Full House <\/i>alum praised her new TV home\u2019s commitment to showcasing \u201ctraditional marriage\u201d on screen. (Hallmark has since featured more LGBTQIA+ couples in its yearly film slate.)<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tEveryone deserves to fall in love with a cheesy holiday movie at Christmas \u2014 and many networks and streaming services are making their offerings more diverse than ever. \u201c[Christmas movies] give everyone everything they want,\u201d Jonathan Bennett, a Hallmark mainstay, exclusively told Us Weekly in November 2022. \u201c[The Holiday Sitter is] an LGBTQ+-led movie, but [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Cameron Bure, who has frequently stressed her conservative values over the years has since apologized for her comments<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe has a lot of gay friends,\u201d Macfarlane added to Tosh, noting that they \u201cnever\u201d discussed his sexuality while filming A Shoe Addict\u2019s Christmas<\/i>. (He publicly came out as gay in 2008.)<\/p>\n
