Sorry, BookTokers \u2014 Jessica Chastain<\/strong><\/a> confirmed there\u2019s \u201czero possibility\u201d she\u2019ll portray Celia St. James in Netflix\u2019s upcoming film adaptation of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Chastain, 46, has long been a fan-favorite choice to portray the fictional actress in the movie version of author Taylor Jenkins Reid<\/strong>\u2019s 2017 novel. \u201cBut I love how excited the fans are,\u201d she told E! News<\/em><\/a> in an interview published on Thursday, December 28. \u201cWhen I was working on Broadway, every single day, they\u2019d be outside, when I was signing, with the books. I just love how wonderful that fan base is.\u201d<\/p>\n

While she won\u2019t appear in the film, Chastain added that she looks forward \u201cto watching it,\u201d adding, \u201cI\u2019m sorry to disappoint everyone out there!\u201d<\/p>\n

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo<\/em> tells the story of fictional Hollywood legend Evelyn Hugo, who recounts her life story to reporter Monique Grant. As her story unfolds, readers learn about her time as an actress during the Golden Age of Hollywood and her notable seven husbands.<\/p>\n

In the book, Celia St. James is another fictional actress who forms a special bond with Evelyn. Much like Chastain, Celia is known for her impressive acting chops and red hair.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Chastain revealed during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen<\/em><\/a> that she was aware that fans want her to play Celia. \u201cI do know there\u2019s an online thing about it,\u201d she said in January. \u201cSure, send me a script.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chastain later backtracked her comments after a social media video<\/a> showed her refusing to sign copies of the book at the stage door of her Broadway show, A Doll\u2019s House<\/em>. \u201cI\u2019ve been asked multiple times by fans, to sign books that I\u2019m not attached to contractually,\u201d she wrote via X<\/a> (formerly Twitter) in April. \u201cBecause it feels wrong, and like I\u2019m taking credit for someone\u2019s work, I\u2019ll say I can\u2019t sign because I\u2019m not doing it. That doesn\u2019t mean I\u2019ve read a bad script.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cI know how excited many [of] you are about adaptations. Please don\u2019t read too much into a video. There is no news about anything.\u201d<\/p>\n

The film adaptation of The Seven Husbands of Hugo<\/em> was announced in March 2022. Little Fires Everywhere<\/em> creator Liz Tigelaar<\/strong> is set to adapt the book for the screen, and Leslye Headland<\/strong> is set to direct.<\/p>\n
