This leads to waitlists for entry, dirty tables inside and understocked (and underwhelming) buffets.<\/p>\n<p>If I arrive at the airport early, I&#8217;ll usually pop by the lounge to see how crowded it is. If it&#8217;s not too busy and I can find a quiet seat, I&#8217;ll enter. If not, I&#8217;ll just head to the terminal to find a quiet space to sit and catch up on work.<\/p>\n<p>However, there are some lounges that are always worth visiting, regardless of the crowding situation. Assuming that I have access, I&#8217;ll even get to the airport early to enjoy one of these nine lounges.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"delta-sky-club-lax\" class=\"jsx-3480274316 anchor\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"jsx-3480274316\">Delta Sky Club \u2014 LAX<\/h2>\n<div class=\"jsx-1995053165 tpg-gallery\">\n<p>1<!-- --> of <!-- -->9<\/p>\n<p>ZACH GRIFF\/THE POINTS GUY<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/airline\/delta-air-lines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Delta Air Lines<\/a> opened its <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/news\/delta-air-lines-new-terminal-los-angeles-tour\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new Sky Way terminal at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)<\/a> last year. ZACH GRIFF\/THE POINTS GUY<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>American Express has <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/news\/new-amex-centurion-lounges\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">built a network of lounges<\/a> that cardmembers want to visit. The result is overcrowding, which can be especially frustrating when you need to grab a bite to eat or refresh during a connection.<\/p>\n<p>While the issuer&#8217;s outposts are a cut above the airline membership lounges in the same airport, there&#8217;s one in particular that I always try to visit.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s the location at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). Split across two levels, the JFK Centurion Lounge is my favorite. With lots of seating, fantastic views of the jets in Terminal 4, six private phone booths and an Equinox Body Lab, you&#8217;re bound to enjoy your time in this space.<\/p>\n<p>Be sure to visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/news\/amex-hidden-us-open-speakeasy\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">hidden speakeasy<\/a> at the lower level for a drink in one of the trendiest bars in all of Queens.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/news\/amex-centurion-lounge-jfk-first-look\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">First look at the brand-new Amex Centurion Lounge at JFK<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"american-and-british-airways-chelsea-lounge-jfk\" class=\"jsx-3480274316 anchor\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"jsx-3480274316\">American and British Airways Chelsea Lounge \u2014 JFK<\/h2>\n<div class=\"jsx-1995053165 tpg-gallery\">\n<p>1<!-- --> of <!-- -->6<\/p>\n<p>ZACH GRIFF\/THE POINTS GUY<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Terminal 8 at JFK has essentially become the de facto home to the Oneworld alliance airlines at JFK, including American Airlines, British Airways, Qatar, Cathay Pacific, Qantas, Iberia and more.<\/p>\n<p>When British Airways colocated with American, the two carriers <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/reviews\/american-british-airways-jfk-lounges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unveiled three new lounges<\/a> (two brand-new spaces and one rebranded, expanded one).<\/p>\n<p>The fanciest and most exclusive of the three is called the <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/reviews\/american-british-airways-jfk-lounges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chelsea Lounge<\/a>. ZACH GRIFF\/THE POINTS GUY<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>United&#8217;s Polaris Lounges are dedicated to those flying in premium cabins on long-haul routes (with <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/news\/united-airlines-polaris-lounge-access-frustration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">even stricter access rules<\/a> than the Flagship Lounge).<\/p>\n<p>They feature sit-down bistro restaurants, upgraded seating areas, stylish bars and more.<\/p>\n<p>The newest Polaris Lounge is in the <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/destination\/north-america\/usa\/washington-dc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Washington, D.C.<\/a>, area at <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/news\/united-iad-international-route-cuts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dulles International Airport (IAD).<\/a> It builds on a strong foundation set by the carrier&#8217;s existing six Polaris Lounges.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to its luxurious design, locally inspired artwork and eye-catching bar, the Dulles location is my personal favorite in the entire network.<\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t wait to see what United does in Denver \u2014 the <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/news\/united-polaris-lounge-denver\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">only United hub that doesn&#8217;t yet<\/a> feature a Polaris Lounge.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/news\/united-airlines-polaris-lounge-washington-dulles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">First look inside the new United Polaris Lounge in Washington Dulles<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"capital-one-lounge-iad\" class=\"jsx-3480274316 anchor\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"jsx-3480274316\">Capital One Lounge \u2014 IAD<\/h2>\n<div class=\"jsx-1995053165 tpg-gallery\">\n<p>1<!-- --> of <!-- -->6<\/p>\n<p>DAVID SLOTNICK\/THE POINTS GUY<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>For years, American Express was the sole credit card issuer with airport lounges. But that changed when <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/guide\/capital-one-lounge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Capital One revealed<\/a> it was getting into the lounge game.<\/p>\n<p>While the issuer already operates an outpost in Dallas-Fort Worth, Capital One opened its second \u2014 and arguably more exciting \u2014 lounge at IAD this year.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s because IAD doesn&#8217;t currently have any other credit card-branded lounges; aside from the United Polaris Lounge, I&#8217;d say that the Capital One outpost is the nicest in the entire airport.<\/p>\n<p>Capital One has all the basics covered, but I&#8217;m especially a fan of the lounge&#8217;s grab-and-go fridge and the delectable tapas-style eats in the lounge.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/guide\/capital-one-lounge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">What you can expect inside Capital One&#8217;s airport lounges<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"american-admirals-club-dca\" class=\"jsx-3480274316 anchor\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"jsx-3480274316\">American Admirals Club \u2014 DCA<\/h2>\n<div class=\"jsx-1995053165 tpg-gallery\">\n<p>1<!-- --> of <!-- -->7<\/p>\n<p>ZACH GRIFF\/THE POINTS GUY<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>American has an <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/news\/american-admirals-club-new-design\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">all-new lounge design<\/a> that first debuted at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).<\/p>\n<p>This <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/news\/american-airlines-admirals-club-dca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new DCA lounge<\/a> features a signature fireplace, lots of wood and muted tones that promote a sense of relaxation.<\/p>\n<p>American has also been working to upgrade the food on offer at its Admirals Clubs, and I&#8217;ve definitely appreciated some of these improvements over the past few months.<\/p>\n<p>That said, if I&#8217;m passing through DCA, I&#8217;m coming to this lounge to find a quiet nook to catch up on some work, while enjoying the ambience.<\/p>\n<p>(My lounge choice in DCA might be changing soon, though, with the upcoming opening of <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/news\/amex-centurion-lounge-washington-dca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the American Express Centurion Lounge<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/news\/american-airlines-admirals-club-dca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Inside American&#8217;s stunning new DCA Admirals Club, the 1st of its kind<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"chase-sapphire-lounge-bos\" class=\"jsx-3480274316 anchor\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"jsx-3480274316\">Chase Sapphire Lounge \u2014 BOS<\/h2>\n<div class=\"jsx-1995053165 tpg-gallery\">\n<p>1<!-- --> of <!-- -->7<\/p>\n<p>DAVID SLOTNICK\/THE POINTS GUY<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Earlier this year, Chase <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/news\/boston-chase-sapphire-lounge-first-look-photos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opened the doors<\/a> to its first-ever domestic airport lounge.<\/p>\n<p>Dubbed the Sapphire Lounge by The Club, Chase&#8217;s outpost in the Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) is one you shouldn&#8217;t miss.<\/p>\n<p>From the delicious food options to the massage rooms to the marble-clad shower suites, the first domestic Sapphire Club checks nearly all the boxes.<\/p>\n<p>Combine that with a show-stopping design and floor-to-ceiling windows with endless tarmac views, and you&#8217;ll find me relaxing here before my next flight from Boston.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/news\/boston-chase-sapphire-lounge-first-look-photos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chase&#8217;s splashy Sapphire Lounge is opening in Boston \u2014 here&#8217;s a first look<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"qantas-first-lounge-lax\" class=\"jsx-3480274316 anchor\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"jsx-3480274316\">Qantas First Lounge \u2014 LAX<\/h2>\n<div class=\"jsx-1995053165 tpg-gallery\">\n<p>1<!-- --> of <!-- -->5<\/p>\n<p>KATIE GENTER\/THE POINTS GUY<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Some savvy travelers believe that the <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/reviews\/qantas-first-lounge-lax\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Qantas First Lounge at LAX<\/a> is the best in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>While I wouldn&#8217;t necessarily go that far, it does offer spectacular food and beverage options in a spacious dining room. There&#8217;s also a long bar stocked with top-shelf liquor.<\/p>\n<p>The downside to this lounge is that the seating and relaxation areas can often get quite crowded. Plus, the interior terminal views don&#8217;t offer any natural light (or planespotting opportunities).<\/p>\n<p>Top-tier <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/news\/alaska-oneworld-elite-perks\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Oneworld Emerald elites<\/a> can use this lounge, subject to some notable exceptions for American Airlines travelers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/reviews\/qantas-first-lounge-lax\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Reviewing the Qantas International First Lounge in Los Angeles<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"bonus-amtrak-metropolitan-lounge-moynihan-train-hall\" class=\"jsx-3480274316 anchor\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"jsx-3480274316\">Bonus: Amtrak Metropolitan Lounge \u2014 Moynihan Train Hall<\/h2>\n<div class=\"jsx-1995053165 tpg-gallery\">\n<p>1<!-- --> of <!-- -->4<\/p>\n<p>ZACH GRIFF\/THE POINTS GUY<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Though this technically isn&#8217;t an airport lounge, <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/news\/amtrak-metropolitan-lounge-bar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Amtrak&#8217;s Metropolitan Lounge<\/a> in New York&#8217;s Moynihan Station deserves special mention.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, when compiling this guide, this was the first lounge I identified as one worth arriving early for.<\/p>\n<p>The club&#8217;s locally inspired design beats most domestic airport lounges, and the food and beverage offerings are actually quite impressive for Amtrak.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s even an open-air deck that overlooks the train station, along with a wide range of seating areas inside.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s just too bad <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/news\/united-amtrak-end-partnernship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">United axed its partnership with Amtrak<\/a> \u2014 part of which included reciprocal lounge access. Amtrak&#8217;s Metropolitan Lounge<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"bottom-line\" class=\"jsx-3480274316 anchor\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"jsx-3480274316\">Bottom line<\/h2>\n<p>These days, most airport lounges aren&#8217;t necessarily worth visiting due to overcrowding. With demand for travel at record levels, there are many more eligible travelers than there are seats in lounges on the busiest travel days.<\/p>\n<p>In many cases, I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s worth spending extra time in the airport to visit a lounge.
