Charles Melton<\/strong><\/a> didn\u2019t hold back while discussing the experience of wearing a prosthetic for a sex scene in May December<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was very professional,\u201d Melton, 32, told Variety<\/em><\/a> earlier this month about filming the intimate onscreen moment<\/a> between him and costar Natalie Portman<\/strong>. \u201cThe whole thing. Natalie, [director] Todd [Haynes]<\/strong> and I met to discuss the scene, walking through it and ensuring everybody was comfortable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Melton confirmed that he chose to wear a body prosthetic instead of completely exposing himself<\/a>. \u201cThere were a few conversations about the prosthetic, regarding what was realistic and what wasn\u2019t,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

The process, however, proved to be quite tedious for Melton. \u201cI had to wear that prosthetic for nine hours that day,\u201d he recalled. \u201cI didn\u2019t have anything to drink that morning or the night before. That was an annoying process but still very respectful.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tOver the years, actors have filmed nude scenes and decided to wear body prosthetics instead of completely exposing themselves on screen. Eric Dane, who plays Cal Jacobs on Euphoria, previously explained what goes into working on such a vulnerable part of the project. \u201cThose scenes are very difficult to shoot. It helps to have one [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

May December<\/em>, which started streaming on Netflix in December, has already scored Melton multiple award<\/a> nominations for his role as Joe.<\/p>\n

The movie follows an actress named Elizabeth (Portman) who travels to meet and study the life of Gracie (Julianne Moore<\/strong>), who she is set to play in a project. Gracie\u2019s notorious romance with Joe, who is 23 years her junior, is the subject of the fictional film. (The plot of May December<\/em> took heavy inspiration from Mary Kay Letourneau\u2019s infamous relationship with her student<\/a> Vili Fualaau<\/strong>.)<\/p>\n

In addition to wearing a prosthetic for the project, Melton also gained 40 pounds<\/a>, which ultimately scored him the part.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tCharles Melton\u2018s performance in May December has sparked major praise, but the actor\u2019s skills aren\u2019t a surprise for those of Us more familiar with his filmography. After moving around often as a child, Melton settled down in Manhattan, Kansas, and initially studied at Kansas State University, but he dropped out of school to move to [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so grateful Charles Melton came into our consciousness. I didn\u2019t know him from Riverdale. There\u2019s such remarkable physicality in the choices he made as an actor. A friend of mine saw a cut of it and he said, \u2018Charles moves like a child and an old man, a combination of the two\u2019 \u2014 which makes so much sense given his predicament.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tMay December is a film about a couple struggling under the weight of their age gap, which takes inspiration from the story of Mary Kay Letourneau\u2018s infamous affair with her student Vili Fualaau, who was 22 years her junior. According to the synopsis, the film picks up years after a notorious romance between Gracie (Moore) [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI asked my parents what it was like when I left the house, what kind of conversations they had in their own relationship. They said they were very sad,\u201d he told Variety<\/em> in May. \u201cMy mother is Korean, and I\u2019m first generation on my mother\u2019s side. She cooked every meal for me growing up. My dad was really good at letting go \u2014 at trusting that this new chapter would work out for the best.\u201d<\/p>\n
