Let\u2019s go.<\/p>\n<h2>most read<\/h2>\n<p>Twitter had a week so strange that it could easily make up this entire newsletter, so we\u2019ll keep to the bullet points:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Last week Elon laid off a huge chunk of the company. This week, some of those who were let go were reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/11\/07\/after-laying-off-half-of-its-staff-twitter-might-be-asking-some-employees-to-come-back\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">asked to come back<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Twitter started giving blue verified checkmarks to anyone who\u2019d pay $8. Things <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/11\/09\/fake-twitter-blue-check-lebron-musk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">got chaotic fast. <\/a><\/li>\n<li>Twitter rolled out a new, <em>second<\/em> checkmark for \u201cOfficial\u201d accounts. And then <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/11\/09\/rip-techcrunchs-official-twitter-badge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">got rid of them<\/a>. And then\u2026brought them back?<\/li>\n<li>By Friday morning, after fake \u201cverified\u201d accounts popped up for everything from companies to athletes to politicians, Twitter paused the $8 verification badge program.<\/li>\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/11\/10\/twitter-elon-musk-resignations-yoel-roth-robin-wheeler\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">number of execs quit<\/a> \u2014 to the point where the exits <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/11\/10\/ftc-warns-no-ceo-or-company-is-above-the-law-if-twitter-shirks-privacy-order\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">perked the ears of the FTC.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Elon reportedly told Twitter employees that <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ZoeSchiffer\/status\/1590812793787518977\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cbankruptcy isn\u2019t out of the question\u201d <\/a>for the company.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/11\/11\/ftx-files-for-bankruptcy-ceo-sam-bankman-fried-steps-down\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FTX collapses<\/a><\/strong>: Once one of the biggest crypto exchanges in the world, FTX effectively exploded this week. It briefly looked like competitor Binance would step in to acquire FTX, only for Binance to take one look at FTX\u2019s books and back out almost immediately. FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried has since resigned, and the company has filed for bankruptcy.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/11\/09\/meta-confirms-11000-layoffs-amounting-to-13-of-its-workforce\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meta layoffs<\/a><\/strong>: Meta \u2014 the parent company behind Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp \u2014 laid off 13% of its workforce this week. With a worldwide headcount of around 87,000 employees, that works out to over <em>eleven thousand<\/em> roles cut.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/11\/08\/gmail-no-longer-allow-users-revert-back-old-design\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gmail will no longer let you go back to old Gmail<\/a><\/strong>: Don\u2019t like the new look that Gmail started rolling out <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/07\/28\/gmail-rolls-out-its-latest-material-you-redesign-and-search-improvements-to-all-users\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">back in July<\/a>? Bad news. While users could previously revert to the old design, the Gmail team announced this week that the new design will be the \u201cstandard experience\u201d for all within weeks.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/11\/10\/google-surveillance-samsung-spyware\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google finds exploits in Samsung phones<\/a><\/strong>: \u201cGoogle says it has evidence that a commercial surveillance vendor was exploiting three zero-day security vulnerabilities found in newer Samsung smartphones,\u201d writes Zack Whittaker. \u201cThe chained vulnerabilities allow an attacker to gain kernel read and write privileges as the root user, and ultimately expose a device\u2019s data.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>audio roundup<\/h2>\n<p>Looking for a new podcast to tune into on your commute?
