Heidi Montag<\/strong><\/a> is back in the music game.<\/p>\n

The Hills<\/em><\/a> alum, 37, dropped a new single on Friday, December 8, that was originally intended to be a follow-up to her 2010 debut album, Superficial<\/em>. The track, titled \u201cBad Boy,\u201d marks the beginning of Montag\u2019s return to pop.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Bad Boy\u2019 has always been one of my favorite songs, so I\u2019m excited to put it out,\u201d Montag told Paper<\/em> <\/a>magazine in an interview published on Friday, adding that she didn\u2019t anticipate Superficial<\/em> to be a \u201cone and done album.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe always thought we would continue on a music journey, and maybe \u2018Bad Boy\u2019 would be on the next album,\u201d she continued. \u201cIt\u2019s just\u2026 life didn\u2019t really pan out the way we were anticipating.\u201d<\/p>\n

Superficial<\/em> didn\u2019t receive the critical acclaim Montag had hoped, but earlier this year, her music saw an unexpected resurgence. After her song \u201cI\u2019ll Do It\u201d was used as runway music during Paris Fashion Week in January 2023, the track exploded on TikTok and continues to be a widely used sound on the app.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was just so grateful for that,\u201d Montag said of the Fashion Week moment. \u201cThen TikTok just really picked up the sound, I think pretty quickly or simultaneously to that. It\u2019s taken on a whole world of its own. China has over, like, I think 20 million streams a day or more.\u201d<\/p>\n

In response to the hype around \u201cI\u2019ll Do It,\u201d the singer released two remixed versions of the song in May 2023. After \u201cBad Boy,\u201d Montag told Paper<\/em> she plans to drop other songs from \u201cthe vault\u201d of unreleased songs.<\/p>\n

Montag noted that in hindsight, she feels like Superficial<\/em> wasn\u2019t successful because of her public image at the time of its release. On The Hills<\/em>, Montag shared her experience undergoing drastic plastic surgery, for which she received an onslaught of criticism.<\/p>\n

The series also painted her as a villain<\/a> during her ongoing feud with costar Lauren Conrad<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
