Going back in time! Following the success of Netflix\u2019s Bridgerton<\/em><\/a> series, it wasn\u2019t long before executive producer\u00a0Shonda Rhimes<\/strong><\/a> invested in Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel<\/strong><\/a>) on a larger scale.<\/p>\n In December 2020, the regency show inspired by Julia Quinn<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s novels introduced viewers to the glamorous London social scene. At the center of the story was Queen Charlotte \u2014 a fictional character inspired by the real-life royal who ruled the U.K. until her death in 1818.<\/a><\/p>\n Ahead of season 2, it was announced that Charlotte\u2019s story would be the focus of a new prequel series<\/a> led by Rhimes.<\/p>\n \u201cMany viewers had never known the story of Queen Charlotte before Bridgerton<\/em> brought her to the world, and I\u2019m thrilled this new series will further expand her story and the world of Bridgerton<\/em>,\u201d said Netflix\u2019s Head of Global TV Bela Bajaria in a statement in May 2021. \u201cShonda and her team are thoughtfully building out the Bridgerton<\/em> universe so they can keep delivering for the fans with the same quality and style they love. And by planning and prepping all the upcoming seasons now, we also hope to keep up a pace that will keep even the most insatiable viewers totally fulfilled.\u201d<\/p>\n Rosheuvel later hinted at what fans can expected from the upcoming series<\/a>, sharing with E! News<\/em> in March 2022, \u201cI can tell you that it\u2019s an origin story. So you will be seeing a younger Queen Charlotte, I will be in it. We have no film date or any kind of scripts or anything at the moment.\u201d<\/p>\n At the time, the Dune<\/em> actress noted that other characters from the original Bridgerton<\/em> series will be explored as well.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m really looking forward to what\u2019s going to come out,\u201d Rosheuvel added at the time. \u201cWe\u2019re going to still be in the world of Bridgerton. We\u2019re not moving away from the world that we know and love Queen Charlotte to be in. I think that\u2019s really clever, because it kind of keeps us on the same track.\u201d<\/p>\n The Guyana native continued: \u201cI think it\u2019s really going to be interesting to see where she has come from and the things that have led her to her in the Bridgerton that we know and love.\u201d<\/p>\n Adjoa Andoh<\/strong>, whose character, Lady Danbury, will also appear in the prequel, pointed out that Bridgerton has already paved the way when it came to the friendships<\/a>. \u201cThese relationships are long lived between Lady Danbury, Lady Bridgerton and the queen,\u201d Andoh shared with E!<\/em>. \u201cThat\u2019s what the prequel is going to talk about. It\u2019s Shonda Rhimes writing it, so it is going to be fabulous.\u201d<\/p>\n
