However, the women, who were once cordial, have been in more than a decade-long feud<\/a> \u2013 and it all started with the infamous interrupting of an acceptance speech.<\/p>\n In 2009, Taylor won the MTV Music Video Award for Best Female Video award for \u201cYou Belong With Me.\u201d The \u201cVigilante S\u2013t\u201d artist was up against fellow icons Lady Gaga<\/strong>, \u200bBeyonc\u00e9<\/strong>, Katy Perry<\/strong>, Kelly Clarkson<\/strong> and Pink<\/strong> \u2013 but she came out on top. In the midst of her acceptance speech, Kim\u2019s now ex-husband Kanye West<\/strong><\/a> rushed on stage, took the microphone from Taylor and publicly slammed her.<\/p>\n \u201cYo, Taylor, I\u2019m really happy for you, I\u2019mma let you finish,\u201d the \u201cAll Falls Down\u201d rapper said. \u201cBut Beyonc\u00e9 had one of the best videos of all time! You\u2019re still an innocent.\u201d<\/p>\n The musicians seemingly made amends as the \u201cShake It Off\u201d singer presented Kanye with the Video Vanguard Award at the 2015 VMAs and referenced their jaw-dropping interaction on the same stage six years prior. \u201cI\u2019m really happy for you and I\u2019mma let you finish but Kanye has had one of the greatest careers of all time,\u201d she said before the Yeezy founder continued to apologize shortly after.<\/p>\n Now, it seemed like all was good in the world of music \u2013 but the feud had only just begun.<\/p>\n In 2016, Kanye released his hit \u201cFamous\u201d and mentioned Taylor in a derogatory manner. \u201cI feel like me and Taylor might still have sex\/ Why? I made that bitch famous\/ God damn \/ I made that bitch famous,\u201d he rapped.<\/p>\n Given their slightly amicable relationship, fans didn\u2019t know whether or not Taylor was on board with her reference in the song. However, the producer claimed that they had a conversation over the phone where Taylor liked the lyrics and gave him approval to include it in the song.<\/p>\n \u201cKanye did not call for approval, but to ask Taylor to release his single \u2018Famous\u2019 on her Twitter account,\u201d Taylor\u2019s rep told \u200bThe New York Times<\/em> at the time. \u201cShe declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message. Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric, \u2018I made that [expletive] famous.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Kim came to Kanye\u2019s defense in July 2016 after she posted a series of Snapchat videos of his alleged phone conversation with Taylor. \u201cI feel like me and Taylor might still have sex,\u201d Kanye read from the lyrics and asked her approval before noting, \u201cRelationships are more important than punchlines.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI really appreciate you telling me about it. I don\u2019t think that there are that many people who can actually understand what it\u2019s like to have millions of people hate you very loudly,\u201d she told the publication. \u201cWhen you say someone is canceled, it\u2019s not a TV show. It\u2019s a human being. You\u2019re sending mass ajemounts of messaging to this person to either shut up, disappear or it could also be perceived as, \u2018kill yourself.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Four years later, Taylor revealed that she did in fact disappear as a result of the online hate she was getting from Kim and Kanye\u2019s fanbase.<\/p>\n \u201cMake no mistake \u2014 my career was taken away from me,\u201d Taylor told TIME<\/em><\/a> in December 2023 after being named the publication\u2019s Person of the Year. \u201cYou have a fully manufactured frame job, in an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar.\u201d<\/p>\n The \u201cLover\u201d songstress revealed that the fight took her \u201cdown psychologically,\u201d which led her to temporarily move to a \u201cforeign country.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI didn\u2019t leave a rental house for a year.
