While the Consumer Electronics Show looks to be a little light on auto-related announcements next year, Honda said it will use the event to launch a new global series of electric vehicles. And today it dropped its first teaser. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
The photo shows what appears to be a sloping rear section of a car with no visible tail lights or bumper. There\u2019s a wheel covering featuring lined triangles, and apparently a lot of glass and purple lighting. Beyond that, we don\u2019t know much else. Such is the nature of the teaser: all flair, no substance. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cHonda will showcase the global EV series models and several key technologies that illustrate the significant transformation Honda is currently undergoing,\u201d the company said in a press release. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
So far, Honda\u2019s EV offerings have been relatively modest. There\u2019s the Europe- and Asia-only Honda e city car<\/a> and the coming-soon-to-North-America Prologue SUV<\/a>. There\u2019s also the upcoming Acura ZDX<\/a> from the company\u2019s performance brand. The company is aiming for 30 new EVs by 2030 with 2 million units sold, 100 percent zero-emissions auto sales by 2040, and carbon neutrality \u201cfor all products and corporate activities\u201d by 2050. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n But there have also been setbacks. Honda recently canceled its plans<\/a> to build a lineup of affordable EVs with General Motors. And Cruise, GM\u2019s autonomous unit in which Honda is also an investor<\/a>, has paused all public operations after a pedestrian was injured by one of the company\u2019s driverless vehicles. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
