Founded in April<\/a>, xAI is Musk\u2019s attempt at jumping<\/a> on the AI hype train. The company\u2019s purpose is to \u201cunderstand the true nature of the universe,\u201d according to its website, something the launch of its Grok AI chatbot is apparently supposed to further. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Grok pulls real-time information from X (formerly Twitter) to power some of its responses, but it\u2019s currently only available in early access to X\u2019s Premium Plus subscribers<\/a>. Despite the close ties between Grok and X, xAI is separate from X Corp., X\u2019s parent company. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The SEC filing notes xAI will only accept a minimum of $2 million from outside investors. The filing also says, \u201cThe issuer has entered into a binding and enforceable agreement for the purchase and sale of the Total Remaining to be Sold listed above,\u201d which sure seems<\/em> like the rest of the billion is already a done deal, as Axios<\/em> has noted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
