Xochitl Gomez<\/strong> and partner Val Chmerkovskiy<\/strong><\/a> became the first pair to win Dancing With the Stars<\/em><\/a>\u2019 Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy during the Tuesday, December 5, season 32 finale.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh my god, there\u2019s so much confetti,\u201d Gomez, 18, exclaimed as she cried tears of joy. This is the third time Chmerkovskiy, 37, took home the win as a pro on the ABC series.<\/p>\n

DWTS<\/em>\u2019 grand prize was renamed to honor Goodman<\/a> in September. Goodman, who died at age 78<\/a> in April, served as a judge on the reality competition series from 2005 to 2022.<\/p>\n

Before the winners of the coveted prize were announced, the five final couples each took the stage twice. The duos performed both a freestyle and a redemption routine, the latter of which allowed the pros another go at a dance they struggled with earlier in the season.<\/p>\n

Alyson Hannigan<\/strong> and partner Sasha Farber<\/strong> tried their hand at redemption first, performing a salsa to \u201cGet on Your Feet\u201d by Gloria Estefan<\/strong>. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba<\/strong> told Hannigan, 49, that she wanted to see her bring more sex appeal to the dance this time around.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou did an amazing job. Something is so different about you,\u201d Inaba, 55, told the actress after the performance. \u201cYou are a different person than the person who walked in on that very first episode. You have grace, you have confidence now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jason Mraz<\/strong>, meanwhile, was tasked with a foxtrot for the redemption round.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first time he performed [the foxtrot], he had some problems because the frame was very tight,\u201d Bruno Tonioli<\/strong> said to cameras before telling Mraz, 46, that he looked like he was \u201ccarrying a sack of potatoes\u201d during rehearsal.<\/p>\n

However, Mraz and partner Daniella Karagach<\/strong>\u2019s practice paid off and the pair earned a perfect score.<\/p>\n

\u201cPure classic ballroom foxtrot,\u201d Tonioli, 68, said, praising the \u201cold school Hollywood leading man\u201d flavor that Mraz brought to the dance.<\/p>\n

Karagach, 30, broke down in tears while listening to the judges\u2019 feedback and proceeded to gush about Mraz to cohost Julianne Hough<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just so proud of him, the human being that he is,\u201d Karagach said. \u201cWeek 4 was a struggle for us and the fact you were able to push through<\/a> and be in this final so open heartedly and just want it so bad is just so refreshing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ariana Madix<\/strong> also impressed the judges with her samba, which Derek Hough<\/strong> wanted her to attempt again so she could \u201cslow it down\u201d and show off the \u201clines and control\u201d that characterize the dance.<\/p>\n

\u201cGiving you the samba in a finale is mean, but Ariana, you\u2019re a samba queen!\u201d Hough, 38, gushed after the performance, giving Madix, 38, a standing ovation.<\/p>\n

One finalist, however, received some criticism after her redemption dance. Although Inaba praised \u201cthe passion and connection\u201d between Charity Lawson<\/strong> and partner Artem Chigvintsev<\/strong> that she was missing during their first tango, she said she \u201chad to call out\u201d a mistake in the choreography.<\/p>\n

Despite Inaba\u2019s critique, Hough called Lawson\u2019s tango \u201cthe best dance of the night so far.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last but not least, Gomez and Chmerkovskiy danced a foxtrot. Tonioli told Gomez that she \u201clost balance\u201d the first time she attempted the dance and \u201chit it so cleanly\u201d that her arm movements weren\u2019t as elegant as they should\u2019ve been.<\/p>\n

After the performance, Tonioli was satisfied. \u201cYour musicality is like part of the orchestra,\u201d he told Gomez. \u201cIt really is a delight watching you.\u201d<\/p>\n

The finalists weren\u2019t the only ones who performed during the finale; all the previously eliminated season 32 couples returned for an opening number set to \u201cYoung Hearts Run Free\u201d by Candi Staton<\/strong> as well as a jive to \u201cSanta Claus Is Comin\u2019 to Town\u201d by Mariah Carey<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
