Charles Melton<\/a><\/strong> was honored at the Critics Choice Celebration of Black, Latino & AAPI Achievements<\/strong> and broke down accepting his award.<\/p>\n Melton took his mother, Sukyong Melton<\/strong>, to the celebration, and during his acceptance speech for the Breakthrough Performance accolade for his work in May December<\/strong><\/em>, couldn\u2019t hold back his emotions.<\/p>\n \u201cI stand today in front of my mother,\u201d Melton said<\/a> before pausing and receiving applause from the audience. \u201cYou are my hero.\u201d<\/p>\n After gathering himself and taking another deep breath, Melton continued, \u201cThank you critics. Your acknowledgment of my work is incredibly meaningful to me. I extend my deepest respect and appreciation to each and every one of you. Thank you again so much. Thank you to Netflix for all of their support.\u201d<\/p>\n May December is a drama film directed by Todd Haynes<\/strong> from a screenplay by Samy Burch<\/strong>. The Netflix movie is based on a story by Burch and Alex Mechanik<\/strong> starring Natalie Portman<\/a><\/strong>, Julianne Moore<\/a><\/strong> and Melton.<\/p>\n
