\nThe \u2018General Hospital\u2019 actor\u2019s cause of death has been revealed after he was found dead on 15 September aged 43 at his home in Austin, Texas \u2013 days before he was due to turn 44 \u2013 following a long battle with bipolar disorder and manic depression.<\/p>\n
\nAn autopsy reported obtained by Radar Online has now shown the actor was found in his bathtub \u201cwith an apparent gunshot wound to the head\u201d.<\/p>\n
\nFirst responders were said by the document to have found \u201cmultiple letters indicating suicidal intent\u201d and \u201ca revolver chambered for .410 shotgun shells\u201d in \u201cthe descendant\u2019s right hand\u201d.<\/p>\n
\nBilly, who wasn\u2019t married and had no children, also had several drugs and alcohol in his system at the time of his death \u2013 including \u201ccocaine, and its metabolites, diphenhydramine, and amphetamine.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHis blood alcohol level was listed at 0.08, according to Radar.<\/p>\n
\nBilly\u2019s mum Patricia revealed a few days after the shock death of her \u2018The Young and the Restless\u2019 star son he had \u201csurrendered his life.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nShe told Soap Opera Digest: \u201cHe fought a long, hard, valiant battle with bipolar depression for years. He did everything he could to control the disease.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cHe loved his family, his friends and his fans, but in the end, the disease won the fight.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cWe all loved him so much and are desperately trying to deal with our loss,\u201d she concluded. \u201cI will have nothing further to say. Thanks for the love and support.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nBilly got his big break in 2007 when he landed his first big TV role as Richie Novak on \u2018All my Children\u2019.<\/p>\n
\nHe was cast as Billy Abbott on \u2018The Young and the Restless\u2019 a year later, and starred on the CBS series from 2008 to 2014.<\/p>\n
\nHis performance earned him three Daytime Emmy Awards \u2013 two for best for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series and one for outstanding lead actor in a drama series.<\/p>\n
\nHe went on to play Drew Cain and Jason Morgan on \u2018General Hospital\u2019, on which he was a series regular until 2019.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
