Hannah Ferrier<\/strong><\/a> candidly discussed the toll that filming season 1 of Below Deck Mediterranean<\/em><\/a> took on her body.<\/p>\n

\u201cFilming season 1 of Below Deck Med<\/em> \u2014 I was so embarrassed at the time to admit I was struggling with anxiety that I ended up losing 22 pounds in 6 weeks during filming,\u201d the reality star, 37, wrote via Instagram Stories on Sunday, December 3, alongside a photo of herself from her days on the hit Bravo series.<\/p>\n

Hannah recalled going to great lengths to prevent production from capturing her mental health struggles<\/a>, adding, \u201cI would actually hide in the bathroom while covering my microphone and having panic attacks. I\u2019m glad we have moved on as a society and can now talk openly about mental illness.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shortly after sharing her experience, Hannah received an outpouring of support from viewers. She uploaded several messages from followers who praised her for normalizing conversations about anxiety and inspiring them to speak out as well.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tOver the years, Bravo viewers have seen Below Deck Mediterranean cast members come and go \u2014 but not before they brought the drama to the small screen. The spinoff series, which premiered in 2016, seemingly found a permanent crew member in chief stew Hannah Ferrier. The Australia native appeared in five seasons of the hit [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Below Deck Med<\/em> became a hit in part because of Hannah\u2019s presence. The spinoff, which debuted in 2016, featured Below Deck<\/em> alum Ben Robinson<\/strong>, but it was Hannah who remained the face<\/a> of the series over the years.<\/p>\n

After cameras captured Hannah experiencing a panic attack in season 3, the chief stew opened up about what led to the breakdown.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe anxiety had been going quite badly for eight days leading up to the attack. It didn\u2019t just come out of nowhere,\u201d she told Decider<\/em> in August 2018. \u201cWhat I was doing at the time [was asking], \u2018What is different from season 1 to now?\u2019 And all I could think was [my then-romance with bosun] Conrad [Empson]<\/strong>. Looking back and watching the season now, actually there was a lot that was different.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hannah clarified that her personal life wasn\u2019t the main factor<\/a> behind her panic attack.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had the most vile charter guests that we have ever had. The first two weeks I was doing four hours of sleep a night consecutively,\u201d she recalled. \u201c[Captain] Sandy [Yawn]<\/strong> was really quite hard on me throughout the start of the season. Also, you don\u2019t get away. You can\u2019t get away from the cameras, you can\u2019t get away from the work environment, the charter guests just keep coming. In a normal job you can go home and sit down with your partner or your girlfriend and have a glass of wine and unleash and talk about it. Even when we are speaking with our families we don\u2019t have much time. Everything just goes into your head as opposed to coming out, which is what you do in a normal scenario.\u201d<\/p>\n

The TV personality went on to thank viewers for their compassionate response.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of people reached out and said, \u2018I didn\u2019t know that anyone else got the physical symptoms that I got.\u2019 Because people don\u2019t talk about it. There are obviously a lot of people in the world that feel really alone in terms of getting that sort of anxiety,\u201d she continued. \u201cPeople who don\u2019t suffer anxiety or aren\u2019t close to somebody [who does] get stress and anxiety confused, and they are two very different things. So, I think it was good to see people\u2019s response that they felt less alone.\u201d<\/p>\n

While filming season 5 of Below Deck Med<\/em>, Hannah started to hyperventilate<\/a> after her coworker Hindrigo \u201cKiko\u201d Lorran<\/strong> was fired. The concerning moment sparked a chain of events that ultimately led to Hannah\u2019s exit. At the time, Hannah told her roommate Malia White<\/strong> that she needed a Valium to calm down, which the bosun reported to Sandy, 58.<\/p>\n

Hannah later questioned Sandy\u2019s decision to fire her<\/a> for having Valium and a CBD vape pen in her cabin.<\/p>\n

\u201cI sometimes feel with her \u2026 that she\u2019s not honest with herself. Like she says like, \u2018Oh, it wasn\u2019t personal,\u2019 like,\u200b\u200b the firing. I was like, \u2018It\u2019s kind of funny because Kat [Held]<\/strong> had prescription meds that Captain Lee [Rosbach]<\/strong> had found out about and she didn\u2019t get fired,’\u201d Hannah exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> in May 2021. \u201cThere wasn\u2019t a need to fire me for that. It was a hundred percent personal, but I guess whatever helps you sleep at night.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAs soon as you step foot on a Below Deck Mediterranean charter yacht, you\u2019re guaranteed one thing: a whole lot of drama. Throughout its five seasons, crew members like Captain Sandy Yawn, Hannah Ferrier, Malia White and more have been know to butt heads with each other \u2014 all with the purpose of delivering a [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Sandy, meanwhile, defended her decision to fire Hannah. \u201cWhen the trust level is broken for me as a captain, I\u2019m not taking anybody to sea,\u201d she shared with Us<\/em> in September 2021. \u201cPeople [tried] to take my license over the years, really, because of things that happen [with the] crew.\u201d<\/p>\n
