The outcome could range from \u201clike a fine\u201d to \u201ccould be more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reuters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/us\/us-justice-dept-is-split-over-charging-binance-crypto-world-falters-sources-2022-12-12\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> in December that prosecutors at the U.S. Department of Justice have been investigating Binance since 2018 over any lapses in compliance with U.S. anti-money laundering laws and sanctions and was split about whether it was the right time to conclude the probe.<\/p>\n<p>Binance publicly disputed the report, alleging Reuters was \u201cwrong again\u201d and \u201cattacking our law enforcement team, a team that we\u2019re incredibly proud of.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Binance founder and chief executive Changpeng Zhao launched a campaign on Twitter, alleging newsrooms were \u201cstill working for\u201d FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried. As usually, Zhao presented no evidence to back up his claims and urged his followers to \u201cignore the FUD.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The change in tack for Binance comes as it\u2019s becoming publicly apparent that things are not all okay for the firm.
