Don\u2019t you, forget about me. From Abbott Elementary<\/em><\/a> to Riverdale<\/em><\/a>, John Hughes<\/a>\u2018 The Breakfast Club<\/em> left a lasting impression on the small screen.<\/p>\n The 1995 cult classic focused on five teenagers from very different backgrounds who end up serving detention<\/a> together at their high school. The cast of The Breakfast Club<\/em> \u2014 which included Anthony Michael Hall,<\/strong><\/a> Emilio Estevez<\/strong><\/a>, Ally Sheedy<\/strong><\/a>, Molly Ringwald<\/strong> <\/a>and Judd Nelson<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 quickly found success for their involvement<\/a> in the iconic coming-of-age story.<\/p>\n Ringwald, who collaborated with Hughes on other movies<\/a> such as Ferris Bueller\u2019s Day Off<\/em><\/a> and Pretty in Pink<\/em><\/a>, later explained why she didn\u2019t think The Breakfast Club<\/em> aged well since its release<\/a>.<\/p>\n In a 2018 essay for The New Yorker<\/em>, the actress recalled her initial concerns about watching the film with her daughter.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cI hadn\u2019t anticipated that it would ultimately be most troubling to me,\u201d the California native, who shares kids Mathilda, Adele and Roman<\/a> with husband Panio Gianopoulos<\/strong><\/a>, wrote in reference to scenes she found to be problematic years later. \u201cIf attitudes toward female subjugation are systemic, and I believe that they are, it stands to reason that the art we consume and sanction plays some part in reinforcing those same attitudes.\u201d<\/p>\n She continued: \u201cHow are we meant to feel about art that we both love and oppose? What if we are in the unusual position of having helped create it? Erasing history is a dangerous road when it comes to art\u2014change is essential, but so, too, is remembering the past, in all of its transgression and barbarism, so that we may properly gauge how far we have come, and also how far we still need to go.\u201d<\/p>\n After joining The CW\u2019s Riverdale<\/em> in 2017<\/a>, Ringwald\u2019s legendary film was the subject on a special episode in the series\u2019 third season<\/a>. The show\u2019s flashback episode titled \u201cThe Midnight Club\u201d paid tribute to The Breakfast Club<\/em> by having the main actors play younger versions of their onscreen parents.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s an episode called \u2018The Midnight Club.\u2019 Which is our take on sort of The Breakfast Club<\/em>. Obviously the much-darker Riverdale version of that,\u201d showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa<\/strong> shared at the Television Critics Association press tour in 2018. \u201cCamila [Mendes]<\/strong><\/a> will be playing a young Hermione (Marisol Nichols<\/strong><\/a>), Cole [Sprouse]<\/strong><\/a> will be playing a young FP (Skeeth Ulrich)<\/strong><\/a>, KJ [Apa]<\/strong><\/a> will be dying his hair brown and playing a young Fred Andrews (Luke Perry<\/a>). And we\u2019re going to learn about a really, really dark secret in Riverdale<\/em> that the parents have been keeping since they were in high school.\u201d<\/p>\n
