Gerry Turner<\/strong><\/a> and his fianc\u00e9e, Theresa Nist<\/strong><\/a>, updated fans on their relationship since getting engaged<\/a> on The Golden Bachelor<\/em><\/a> \u2014 <\/em>and they\u2019re getting a televised wedding special to kick off the new year.<\/p>\n

Gerry, 72, and Theresa, 70, sat down with host Jesse Palmer<\/strong> during the After the Final Rose<\/em><\/a> segment of the season 1 finale, which aired on Thursday, November 30. After congratulatory messages were out of the way, the newly-engaged couple shared some pretty intimate details about the overnight date that officially sealed their love.<\/p>\n

\u201cI realized all of a sudden, here was a woman who knew how to maintain and nurture a relationship,\u201d Gerry said. Theresa chimed in, adding, \u201cHe\u2019s not going to tell you exactly what happened in the fantasy suite, I\u2019ll tell you. I knocked his boots off.\u201d<\/p>\n

The couple then revealed that they\u2019ve been living in bliss since getting engaged. While they\u2019ve gone back to their normal lives, Theresa confirmed she and Gerry speak on on the phone for hours \u201cevery day.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have gotten into deeper and deeper conversations,\u201d she gushed. \u201cWe just laugh so much. It\u2019s been great.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jesse, for his part, surprised Gerry and Theresa with a trip to Italy, before the Golden Bachelor himself revealed the couple\u2019s plans to get married \u201cright away.\u201d Jesse then announced that The Golden Wedding<\/em> would air via ABC on Thursday, January 4, and chronicle Gerry and Theresa\u2019s journey down the aisle.<\/p>\n

Before the show started airing, Gerry confessed that he was initially against remarrying<\/a> after the 2017 death of his wife of 43 years, Toni<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs I was dating [before the show], I was looking for the person that I would spend the rest of my life with regardless of the label,\u201d he exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> in October. \u201cAnd as I got closer and closer to the process started in the show, I really kind of came to realize that I did indeed want to be married, that I wanted that commitment, that two-way street. And so as I got into the show, that was my objective.\u201d<\/p>\n

While reflecting on his previous marriage, Gerry noted that Toni would be \u201cexcited\u201d about the \u201cgood conclusion\u201d<\/a> to his Golden Bachelor<\/em> journey, adding, \u201cI was happy with how it turned out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Before proposing to Theresa, Gerry said an emotional goodbye to Leslie Fhima<\/strong><\/a> after telling both women that he loved them<\/a>. Although such confessions to multiple contestants are common in the Bachelor<\/em><\/a> franchise, Gerry never believed he would fall for more than one woman.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought, \u2018No, that\u2019s absolutely not possible. That\u2019s silly.\u2019 How wrong I was,\u201d he told Us<\/em> in September. \u201cBecause through the course of the journey, I really felt strong feelings for several of the women<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Amid his engagement to Theresa, though, Gerry acknowledged that he was not fully \u201cin love\u201d with multiple contestants<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn retrospect, I realized that in that particular moment, whenever it was \u2014 the setting was such that, \u2018Yeah, it was easy to look at someone and tell \u2018em you loved \u2018em,\u2019\u201d he explained. \u201cBut once you get through it all and you look back, then you realize that there is just really one person that really meets the standard in all situations that you want it to be.\u201d<\/p>\n
