At some point this week, George Santos<\/strong> might finally be expelled from Congress\u2014following the release of an incredibly damning report<\/a> from the House Ethics Committee that accused him of engaging in criminal activity (which, to be clear, he\u2019s already been charged with by federal prosecutors<\/a>*). \u201cI know I\u2019m going to get expelled when this expulsion resolution goes to the floor,\u201d Santos said<\/a> during a conversation on X Spaces on Friday. \u201cI\u2019ve done the math over and over, and it doesn\u2019t look really good.\u201d For his part, the New York congressman, who was exposed as a serial liar<\/a> shortly after being elected last year\u2014and has continued spinning<\/a> yarns<\/a> in the ensuing 11 months\u2014is obviously not taking his likely booting from Congress very well, accusing his colleagues<\/a> of being drunk felons who have sex with lobbyists every night.\u00a0Who else is struggling to contain their reaction? That would be Marjorie Taylor Greene,<\/strong> the House\u2019s resident drunk mom at the PTA auction who\u2019s been asked to leave more than once.<\/p>\n On Monday, Greene wrote<\/a> on X: \u201cLet me get this straight. The Republican majority controlled Congress has ousted a Republican Speaker and is now on the verge of expelling a not yet convicted Republican member, but we can\u2019t even impeach [Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro] Mayorkas<\/strong> or [President Joe] Biden<\/strong> or stop the weaponized DOJ against [Donald]<\/strong> Trump<\/strong> and all their political enemies?\u201d<\/p>\n Yes, Greene\u2014who doesn\u2019t even know the difference<\/a> between the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI\u2014is absolutely enraged that her GOP colleagues are considering ousting a lawmaker who (1) has admitted to fabricating large parts of his biography and (2) has been accused, by both prosecutors and Republicans who sit on the Ethics Committee, of scamming his own donors\u2026among other things. Greene has long been obsessed with impeaching Biden, a task that new House Speaker Mike Johnson<\/strong> has reportedly indicated<\/a> is not a main priority right now given the president\u2019s declining poll numbers. Per Insider<\/a>:<\/p>\n \u201cHe will become a former member of Congress,\u201d said Daniel Schuman,<\/strong> the director of governance at the Popvox Foundation. \u201cFormer members of Congress have a lot of privileges.\u201d Those privileges\u2014which would also apply if he resigned\u2014typically include the ability to walk onto the House floor, use lawmakers-only facilities, and even purchase (and perhaps auction off) their own office furniture.<\/p>\n Under House rules and by custom, former lawmakers\u2014as long as they\u2019re not registered lobbyists\u2014have typically been allowed access to the House gym as long as they pay a fee.
