Twilight<\/strong><\/a><\/em> director Catherine Hardwicke<\/strong><\/a> is revealing why the studio was initially hesitant to cast Robert Pattinson<\/strong><\/a> as Edward Cullen. <\/p>\n

The 37-year-old actor played the iconic vampire in all five Twilight<\/em> movies, released each year from 2008 to 2012. <\/p>\n

During a recent appearance on the Watchalong<\/a><\/em> podcast, Catherine<\/strong>, 68, recently explained how Robert<\/strong>\u2018s appearance wasn\u2019t up to the Summit Entertainment\u2019s standard.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen he came over to my house, he had black bangs for hair and was kind of out of shape because he was hanging out at the pub all the time,\u201d she recalled of his audition. \u201cI thought \u2018it works not just in person, but it works on screen.\u2019 I had to be sure. Of course in person I just got carried away, but you have to be sure \u2014 does it really translate [to the screen]?\u201d <\/p>\n

Catherine<\/strong> then described how the studio responded to the possibility of Robert<\/strong> landing the role.<\/p>\n

\u201cI sent it to Summit and he went over to meet them,\u201d she said. \u201cThey called me back and go, \u2018Do you think you can make this guy look good?\u2019 I said, \u2018Yeah, I do. Did you see his cheekbones? We\u2019re doing a makeover on the hair and everything and he\u2019s going to start working out and he\u2019s going to be gorgeous.\u2019 But they didn\u2019t believe it at first. He walked over there with a stained shirt\u2026 It was Rob<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n
