Before the shocking dismissal, Scream became a horror staple spanning decades. The first film, which was released in 1996, focused on Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) as she faced off against numerous killers hiding their identity [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\u201cEvery person on this earth- regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation or socio-economic status- deserves equal human rights, dignity and, of course, freedom,\u201d Barrera continued in her statement on Wednesday. \u201cI believe a group of people are NOT their leadership, and that no governing body should be above criticism.\u201d<\/p>\n
Barrera concluded the post by sharing that she prays \u201cday and night for no more deaths, for no more violence, and for peaceful co-existence.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI will continue to speak out for those that need it most and continue to advocate for peace and safety, for human rights and freedom,\u201d she wrote. \u201cSilence is not an option for me.\u201d<\/p>\n
After news broke that Barrera had been dropped from the film, Spyglass, the production company behind the new batch of Scream<\/em> sequels, released a statement about the decision to let her go.<\/p>\n\u201cSpyglass\u2019 stance is unequivocally clear: We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech,\u201d their statement to Variety<\/em> read.<\/p>\nScream VII\u2019s director, Christopher Landon<\/strong>, also responded to Barrera\u2019s firing in a since-deleted Tweet on Tuesday, writing, \u201cThis is my statement: \ud83d\udc94 Everything sucks.
