Ex-OpenAI president Greg Brockman \u2014 who, as far as we\u2019re aware, isn\u2019t currently employed at OpenAI in any capacity<\/a> \u2014 is posting updates about OpenAI products on X, including one today about ChatGPT\u2019s voice narration feature being made available to all ChatGPT users.<\/p>\n Perhaps Brockman\u2019s simply expressing pride in his colleagues\u2019 work. Perhaps the job offer<\/a> from Microsoft fell through. Perhaps negotiations<\/a> with OpenAI\u2019s board of directors to bring him and Sam Altman \u2014 who was OpenAI\u2019s CEO until Friday, when the board abruptly sacked him<\/a> \u2014 back are further along than was reported. (Brockman resigned in protest Friday evening.) Who knows? At this stage in chaotic OpenAI saga<\/a>, it\u2019s anyone\u2019s guess.<\/p>\n OpenAI\u2019s existential crises aside, the aforementioned voice feature for ChatGPT \u2014 which was announced<\/a> in September and began rolling out to premium<\/a> subscribers<\/a> of ChatGPT, OpenAI\u2019s AI-powered chatbot, a few weeks ago \u2014 is powered by a text-to-speech model that can generate human-like voices from text and just a few seconds of sampled speech. OpenAI said that it teamed up with established voice actors to create five different voices, with its open source Whisper speech recognition system<\/a>\u00a0used to transcribe verbal utterances into text.<\/p>\n To activate the voice feature, users can head to the settings menu in the Android or iOS ChatGPT apps and tap the \u201cheadphones\u201d icon.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
