Chris Pine<\/strong> <\/a>wasn\u2019t thrilled about picking up the microphone for his new Disney movie musical Wish<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery time you\u2019re like, \u2018They f\u2014ing hired me?! Oh my God, no,\u2019\u201d Pine, 43, told Entertainment Weekly <\/em><\/a>in a Monday, November 20, interview regarding his singing ability. \u201cIt\u2019s not my forte, it\u2019s not my background.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although he was quite anxious, Pine loved the style of the songs written by Julia Michaels<\/strong> and Benjamin Rice<\/strong> for the movie, which celebrates 100 years of storytelling at Disney.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a dominant melody line and [Michaels] deliberately plays against it,\u201d he explained to the outlet. \u201cI think that\u2019s how you really hear the story of the lyric. It is [Stephen] Sondheim<\/strong>-esque because his work is very similarly atonal. It\u2019s always plot-driven and emotionally driven as opposed to just something in a pretty song. I loved the challenge of it, but I was definitely a nervous singer, for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cStephen Sondheim came into the recording session with the full orchestra. As I was coming out, he said, \u2018What was that note in the second stanza?\u2019 I said, \u2018Oh! B.\u2019 He\u2019s like, \u2018It\u2019s an A-flat,\u2019\u201d the Star Trek<\/em> actor shared. \u201cThe point being is that he heard me screw up. So, that\u2019s a long way of saying, yes, I was terrified.\u201d<\/p>\n

Disney\u2019s Wish<\/em>, which hits theaters on November 22, stars Ariana DeBose<\/strong> as Asha, a 17-year-old girl who makes a wish to the stars after believing there is darkness in the magical kingdom of Rosas, a land led by the sorcerer Magnifico (Pine).<\/p>\n

The film \u2014 which was announced during the D23 Expo \u2014 is meant to honor Disney Animation Studios 100-year anniversary.<\/p>\n

You can say a wish is passive because you wish and hope this happens, but really it\u2019s a declaration of what\u2019s driving your heart, and the pursuit of that is important.
