Keke Palmer<\/strong><\/a> has grown up in the spotlight \u2013 but her mother, Sharon Palmer<\/strong>, has supported her daughter behind the scenes. Though the Nope<\/em> actress has briefly mentioned her parents in past interviews, fans have welcomed Sharon with open arms after she defended Keke against ex-boyfriend Darius Jackson<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n The high school teacher recalled the first time she not only witnessed her daughter\u2019s talent, but realized she could \u200bnavigate rejection<\/p>\n \u201cOut of thousands and thousands of kids, she got down to, like, the last 20 kids. And then she was out,\u201d Sharon told TODAY<\/em><\/a> in a March 2021 interview. \u201cAnd I felt, like, \u2018Wow, if this kid is not upset by not getting a role, then maybe she can handle the entertainment industry.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re from Chicago, which is blue-collar \u2014 we didn\u2019t come from money. We lived in a very low-income area, but we also came from a Christian family,\u201d she continued to the outlet. \u201cThe talk in our home was God and faith and \u2018You can achieve\u2019 and \u2018Don\u2019t allow yourself to be a product of your environment\u2019 and \u2018For damn sure don\u2019t let yourself be a stereotype.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Sharon explained that she drove Keke to commercial auditions in Los Angeles after she learned that a friend was able to financially put her daughter through college from acting.<\/p>\n \u201cI did it so she could go to college. I never expected any of this. I didn\u2019t do it for money or fame. It was college. I wanted her to go to college,\u201d she told the publication, adding, \u201cI wanted my kids to go to college. And I wanted them to have a better life.\u201d<\/p>\n Keke, for her part, shared her appreciation of her mother\u2019s parenting style after she welcomed her son<\/a>, Leodis, in February 2023.<\/p>\n \u201cOh my gosh!
