\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n Suni Lee<\/strong><\/a> is opening up about her recent health scare. <\/p>\n The 20-year-old Olympic-champion announced her retirement<\/a> from Auburn University\u2019s gymnastics team in April, revealing that she was dealing with a health issue involving her kidneys.<\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n On Thursday (November 16), Suni<\/strong> spoke with USA Today<\/a><\/em> about her how she has navigated her health challenges this year.<\/p>\n The Olympic gold medalist revealed that she gained 45 pounds as a result of her illness.<\/p>\n \u201cI couldn\u2019t fit into any of my clothes,\u201d she said. \u201cMy eyes were swollen shut. It was just so scary.\u201d<\/p>\n Suni<\/strong> explained that she has been \u201cfeeling good\u201d in recent months despite facing many hurdles earlier this year.<\/p>\n \u201cI haven\u2019t had a really bad day in a while,\u201d she added. \u201cBut in the beginning it was like I was waking up swollen. My fingers were so swollen they wouldn\u2019t fit into my grips and I couldn\u2019t hold on to the bar. My whole body was swollen because I was retaining water, so I couldn\u2019t do a flip. \u2026 So it was really different and I had to learn how to work through it.\u201d<\/p>\n Suni<\/strong> returned to competition in August, and even though she declined a U.S. team selection camp invite for the world championships, she affirmed that she plans to train for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.<\/p>\n \u201cObviously the Olympics are always going to be in the back of my head,\u201d she explained. \u201cBut I wake up every morning and I\u2019m not like, \u2018Today\u2019s going to get me to the Olympics.\u2019\u2026I\u2019m not trying to think too far ahead. because that can just add a lot of unwanted pressure and stress.\u201d<\/p>\n Find out what Simone Biles<\/strong><\/a> had to say about making her return to gymnastics in 2023.<\/a> <\/p>\n <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n
