Andrew Walker<\/strong><\/a> knew fans would \u201clove\u201d his Christmas Island<\/em> candy cane nod to pal Tyler Hynes<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 and it was totally spur of the moment.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy character is Mr. Christmas. He is all in for Christmas,\u201d Walker, 44, exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> of how the scene came about on Tuesday, November 14, while promoting his partnership with Envy Apples<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m on set getting ready to shoot this scene, and I\u2019m just like, \u2018I want to throw [on more],\u2019 because I just had my jacket on in the scene.\u201d<\/p>\n

Walker, who plays the holiday-loving Oliver MacLeod in the 2023 Hallmark movie<\/a>, recalled thinking there wasn\u2019t enough Christmas spirit in his costume.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHallmark royalty! Andrew Walker has cemented himself as one of Hallmark Media\u2019s biggest stars after making his network debut in 2012. The Canadian actor first left his mark on viewers that year with A Bride for Christmas alongside Arielle Kebbel. The twosome reunited on camera for 2015\u2019s Bridal Wave, which launched Walker into an even [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018No, no, guys, this guy\u2019s, like, Mr. Christmas, let\u2019s load him up with things. Throw a wreath around his neck or throw ribbon,\u2019\u201d he explained. \u201cSo once I had it all around my neck, I was like, \u2018I\u2019m missing something. I still feel like I need something.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Ultimately, Walker drew inspiration from the set itself \u2014 and his memories with Hynes, 37, in 2022\u2019s Three Wise Men and a Baby<\/em><\/a>. (Hynes and Walker have been friends for years and are actually related<\/a>. Walker\u2019s wife, Cassandra Troy<\/strong><\/a>, is one of Hynes\u2019 cousins.)<\/p>\n

\u201cI looked at the Christmas tree and there\u2019s some candy canes on the Christmas tree, and it just hit me in the moment. I was like, \u2018I\u2019m going to give a little nod to Tyler and I\u2019m going to chew this thing like Tyler did in Three Wise Men<\/em>,’\u201d the actor told Us<\/em>, confirming he knew viewers would \u201clove anything with Tyler and I just ragging on each other or cameos with him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hynes memorably chewed on a candy cane<\/a> or had the treat hanging from his mouth throughout Three Wise Men<\/em> and a Baby<\/em>, which starred Hynes, Walker and Paul Campbell<\/strong><\/a>. In honor of the candy quirk, Walker did his own version in Christmas Island<\/em>\u00a0while decorating and making jokes about the holiday season.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter the scene [had] a couple takes, [my costar] Rachel [Skarsten]<\/strong><\/a> turns to me and she\u2019s like, \u2018This character is the most weird guy I\u2019ve ever acted across from.\u2019 And I\u2019m like, well, I guess life imitates art in a way because I\u2019m also kind of a weirdo myself,\u201d Walker joked.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tTyler Hynes and Andrew Walker have been friends for nearly two decades \u2014 and Hallmark Channel fans have taken notice. \u201cWe talk weekly,\u201d Walker exclusively told Us Weekly in February 2023 of Hynes, who is his wife Cassandra Troy\u2019s cousin. \u201cI\u2019ve known the guy for 19 years since he started coming to her house for [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In addition to his shout-out to Hynes in the film, Walker told Us<\/em> that Christmas Island<\/em> holds a special place in his heart for several reasons. \u201cWorking with people in Halifax and working with the maritime crews, they\u2019re so great. They\u2019re such giving people and they couldn\u2019t do enough for us,\u201d he explained, noting that the movie marks the first time Hallmark \u201chas shot a movie in Canada for Canada and actually called out the location\u201d which is Nova Scotia and Christmas Island.<\/p>\n

The Sweet Autumn<\/em> star<\/a> added: \u201cThis movie \u2026 every day felt like it was just a new adventure. [It] felt really and yet spontaneous as well. And I love working with actors that want to play, and Rachel was ready to just jump into it with me. There was something special about this movie.\u201d<\/p>\n

Walker called Christmas Island<\/em> one of his \u201ctop three favorite\u201d Hallmark projects, telling Us<\/em> that any film he\u2019s done with Nikki DeLoach<\/strong><\/a> is \u201calways\u201d a top pick.<\/p>\n

Three Wise Men<\/em> is so iconic it\u2019s getting an extended cut this holiday season on the network. The upcoming showing, which will air on Hallmark Movies Now Monday, November 27, will feature a cameo from Envy Apples as well, thanks to Walker\u2019s recent partnership with the produce brand.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve also done a few Easter eggs with Envy Apples in other movies I\u2019ve done \u2014 just having them on set and stuff like that, but they\u2019re actually going to be called out in Three Wise Men<\/em>,\u201d Walker told Us<\/em> of the collab. \u201cYou\u2019ll see the Envy branding. How cool is that? It\u2019s just amazing that they are so integrated already into the Hallmark brand and that one of probably my most beloved Hallmark movie<\/a>, they\u2019re going to showcase the product in. I\u2019m thrilled to have them be involved.\u201d<\/p>\n
