Tensions were high for Ryan Reynolds<\/strong><\/a> and Rob McElhenney<\/strong> as Wrexham AFC went into their final National League game during the Welcome to Wrexham season 2 finale, which aired on Tuesday, November 14.<\/p>\n

At the time, fans didn\u2019t know it would be Wrexham\u2019s final game in that particular league, but Reynolds, 47, and McElhenney, 46, were hopeful that the match against Boreham Wood would end in a win \u2014 and promotion to the English Football League<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is for sure two full years bubbling to the top,\u201d Reynolds said of the team\u2019s possible promotion. \u201cI would say that\u2019s been happening constantly though. Just when I think it can\u2019t bubble any more \u2014 like the Nott\u2019s [County] game \u2014 here I am, having genuinely a full four sleepless nights<\/a> leading up to Boreham Wood. It\u2019s all I think about.\u201d<\/p>\n

One of Reynolds and McElhenney\u2019s goals upon becoming the co-owners of Wrexham AFC<\/a> was to turn the franchise into a semi-professional team<\/a>. In order to do so, Wrexham had to win enough games and score enough points in order to be promoted from the National League to the English Football League.<\/p>\n

Whenever World Cup season begins, fans become glued to their TVs to see which country will win the coveted title \u2014 while many stars get inspired to lace up their cleats and join in on the fun at home. \u201cIt has to end today,\u201d McElhenney said before the Wrexham and Boreham Wood game this past April. \u201cThis has just been going on for so long.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wrexham scored three goals to beat Boreham Wood<\/a>, who had only scored one. Along with the 3 to 1 win, Wrexham was officially promoted to the EFL<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cRob and I kinda blacked out during this moment, but somehow we\u2019ll never forget it,\u201d Reynolds captioned an Instagram post following the April 22 win. As Wrexham fans stormed the field, Reynolds and McElhenney embraced to celebrate the win.<\/p>\n

At the end of Tuesday\u2019s finale, fans watched as Reynolds and McElhenney celebrate<\/a> in the Wrexham Championship Parade. While only 15,000 fans were expected to attend the event, 40,000 were there to show their support.<\/p>\n
