{"id":54084,"date":"2023-11-15T04:24:06","date_gmt":"2023-11-15T04:24:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/entertainment.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2023\/11\/15\/billie-eilish-says-this-song-of-hers-is-about-olivia-rodrigo\/"},"modified":"2023-11-15T04:24:06","modified_gmt":"2023-11-15T04:24:06","slug":"billie-eilish-says-this-song-of-hers-is-about-olivia-rodrigo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entertainment.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2023\/11\/15\/billie-eilish-says-this-song-of-hers-is-about-olivia-rodrigo\/","title":{"rendered":"Billie Eilish Says This Song of Hers Is About Olivia Rodrigo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.etonline.com\/people\/billie-eilish\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Billie Eilish<\/a><span> has revealed that one song off of her last album, <\/span><em><span>Happier Than Ever<\/span><\/em><span>, is about by her fellow singer-songwriter, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.etonline.com\/people\/olivia-rodrigo\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Olivia Rodrigo<\/a><span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Talking with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/awards\/story\/2023-11-14\/billie-eilish-what-was-i-made-for-barbie-greta-gerwig\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Los Angeles Times<\/em><\/a><span>, Eilish, 21, shared that not only does she find Rodrigo&#8217;s sophomore album, <\/span><em><span>Guts<\/span><\/em><span>, to be &#8220;adorable,&#8221; but that the &#8220;Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl&#8221; singer, 20, partially inspired the song &#8220;Goldwing.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The &#8220;Bad Guy&#8221; singer told the outlet that while just 14 months separates them in age, she feels a sense of &#8220;protectiveness&#8221; over Rodrigo due to their similar pathways to fame. Both singers came up in their teens and quickly became cultural icons among members of Gen Z.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>&#8220;I think everybody\u2019s experiences are so individual,&#8221; she says. &#8220;Nobody has had anybody else\u2019s life, you know? But I do feel a protectiveness over Olivia. I have a song called \u2018Goldwing\u2019 from my last album that\u2019s kind of about her. I\u2019ve never said that to anyone.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<figure class=\"shortcode shortcode-image content-in\"><figcaption class=\"content-in\"><span class=\"shortcode-image__credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span>The song, she says, is not &#8220;only about her,&#8221; but that she did in fact have Rodrigo in mind while she was writing it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>&#8220;She was coming up, and she was younger than me, and nobody had ever been younger than me,&#8221; Eilish says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The song, it seems, serves as a warning to Rodrigo and anyone else entering the same stratosphere of fame and fortune Eilish was met with early on and the exploitation that comes with it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>&#8220;They\u2019re gonna tell you what you want to hear, then they\u2019re gonna disappear. Gonna claim you like a souvenir, just to sell you in a year,&#8221; Eilish sings in the song.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>&#8220;Olivia was getting big, and she was just, like, this little dainty child,&#8221; Eilish says of Rodrigo. &#8220;I felt so nervous. I was worried about her. She came up in that acting world, and people are so weird. I don\u2019t know \u2014 I just felt very protective over her. And I feel that way to everyone.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The &#8220;Happier Than Ever&#8221; singer went on to add that she feels that way about many of the young girls she comes across in the entertainment industry, specifically mentioning <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.etonline.com\/people\/ariana-greenblatt\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ariana Greenblatt<\/a><span> who starred in the blockbuster hit <\/span><em><span>Barbie<\/span><\/em><span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Eilish recently just <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.etonline.com\/2024-grammy-nominations-snubs-and-surprises-morgan-wallen-barbie-latin-artists-and-more-214589\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">scored a Grammy nomination<\/a><span> for her song, &#8220;What Was I Made For&#8221; from the film. The song &#8212; which is used in the end credits of <\/span><em><span>Barbie <\/span><\/em><span>&#8212; wrestles with feelings of doubt, uncertainty and deficiency as a woman.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>It was those feelings and her own experience that caused her to put pen to paper for &#8220;Goldwing&#8221; and to look out for her fellow young women.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>&#8220;I just see myself in all these young girls. And it\u2019s the girls, man. Boys can handle themselves.
