Banza makes chickpea- and bean-based products including mac \u2018n\u2019 cheese, pizzas, pasta, rice, and, most recently, protein waffles. They\u2019re on a mission<\/a> to get more people in the States to eat chickpeas and beans, since they\u2019re \u201cGood for your health [and] good for the planet\u2019s health.\u201d You\u2019ve probably seen boxes of Banza\u2019s gluten-free chickpea pasta<\/a> in supermarket aisles, but they\u2019re constantly expanding with new shapes and products, which is why we\u2019re always excited whenever there\u2019s a launch.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n This week, we have Ian Burke, senior commerce editor for The Kitchn (me); Quinn Fish<\/strong>, cleaning and organizing editor; April Song<\/strong>, co-op partner manager; and Chanel Fetaz<\/strong>, director of product design and UX. I signed up to test these waffles<\/a> since I\u2019m a huge fan of anything packed with extra protein, while April already liked Banza\u2019s protein pasta. Chanel was curious to try something that \u201csounded unique yet familiar,\u201d and Quinn loves chickpeas and waffles, but hadn\u2019t had waffles since she was a kid. \u201cI\u2019m also always looking for ways to add more protein to my diet (sans meat),\u201d she explained.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Banza Protein Waffle Variety Pack<\/a><\/strong>: These gluten-free protein waffles have 10 grams of protein per serving (which is two waffles), and contain egg but are free from all other major allergens<\/a>. They\u2019re also vegetarian (but not vegan) and you can cook them in a toaster, oven, pan, or air fryer. The variety pack comes with a box of each flavor \u2014 Homestyle, Blueberry, and Chocolate Chip \u2014 however, it\u2019s important to note that all the waffles are available separately, too.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n How We Tested: <\/strong>We fired these bad boys up per package instructions in our office kitchen\u2019s toaster oven \u2014 and only managed to blow a fuse twice because our outlets are fussy \u2014\u00a0and tested them all plain and with a little maple syrup. Since we wanted to make sure we got to taste the actual<\/em> waffles, we skipped any more complicated toppings that might have masked the waffles\u2019 flavors. We also didn\u2019t give them any slack just because they\u2019re made with chickpeas \u2014 in other words, we judged them just like any other frozen waffles and didn\u2019t hold back.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Homestyle Protein Waffles<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
