Now, instead of selling a range of e-bike and e-scooter models from top brands to customers across the country, Ridepanda has become an end-to-end solution for employers \u2014 like Amazon and Google \u2014 to offer employees commuter benefits.<\/p>\n<p>The key takeaways here are 1) What wasn\u2019t working with D2C; and 2) Why they chose B2B2E. The tl;dr is that getting the supply chain and servicing set up for multiple different brands all over the U.S. was incredibly difficult, and enterprises are doing the most right now to get people back into the office and meet sustainability goals.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p>Tech continues to seep into micromobility. For instance,\u00a0<strong>Gogoro<\/strong>, the Taiwanese two-wheeler\u00a0battery-swapping giant, said that its smart electric scooters can now be unlocked and turned on <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/11\/07\/gogoros-smartscooters-can-now-be-unlocked-via-apple-wallet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">via a key<\/a> in a rider\u2019s Apple Wallet on their iPhone or Apple Watch. Meanwhile, another autonomous vehicle startup called <strong>May Mobility<\/strong> has been <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/11\/07\/may-mobility-rides-the-av-wave-while-cruise-and-waymo-feel-the-heat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">operating quietly in the background<\/a>, which co-founder and CEO Edwin Olson told TechCrunch is by design.<\/p>\n<p>That under-the-radar approach \u2014 which is likely helped by its B2B business model \u2014 hasn\u2019t prevented it from raising money. May Mobility raised $105 million in a\u00a0Series D round led by Japan\u2019s telecom giant NTT.\u00a0 Toyota Ventures, BMW i Ventures, Trucks VC and State Farm Ventures also participated in the deal, among other investors. To date, the company\u2019s raised around $300 million.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other deals that got my attention \u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>EasyPark Group<\/strong>, a mobile paid parking company, said it intends to acquire Flowbird Group, which operates under brands Flowbird, YourParkingSpace, TPARK, Extenso Cloud, and Yellowbrick. Flowbird offers a number of services such as pay and display machines, software, and \u201cpark and charge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Flitter<\/strong>, a Paris-based pay-by-mile insurance tech startup, <a href=\"https:\/\/tech.eu\/2023\/11\/06\/insurtech-startup-flitter-raises-eur35m-for-expansion-and-profitability-by-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">raised \u20ac3.5 million<\/a> ($3.75 million) in seed funding led by Swiss insurer Helvetia. The Frenchfounders fund, former Sarenza CEO St\u00e9phane Treppoz, Optimind founder Christophe Eberl\u00e9, Voodoo co-founder Laurent Ritter and Sorare co-founder Adrien Montfort also participated.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Getir,<\/strong> the Turkish instant grocery delivery startup, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/11\/07\/getir-freshdirect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">acquired<\/a> FreshDirect, an online grocery delivery service based in New York.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Niron Magnetics<\/strong>, a Minnesota-based startup developing rare earth-free permanent magnets, raised $33 million with new investments from GM Ventures and Stellantis Ventures. Previous investors Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community and the University of Minnesota also participated. This week alone, the company <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/11\/06\/gm-halts-production-of-cruise-origin-robotaxi-amid-suspended-operations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">paused production<\/a> of its custom-built Origin vehicle, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/11\/08\/cruise-recalls-entire-fleet-after-robotaxi-ran-over-dragged-pedestrian\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recalled its fleet<\/a> of 950 vehicle equipped with autonomous vehicle software and <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/11\/09\/cruise-begins-layoffs-starting-with-workers-who-supported-driverless-operations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">laid off contract workers<\/a> who were responsible for the maintenance and driverless operations. Meanwhile, the <strong>California Public Utilities Commission<\/strong> issued an order to <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/11\/09\/cpuc-consider-redoing-hearing-to-grant-cruises-24-7-robotaxi-permit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">halt the implementation of Cruise\u2019s permit<\/a> to charge for robotaxi rides across San Francisco 24\/7 as they consider the city\u2019s request for a redo of the hearing that granted the permit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ghost Autonomy<\/strong> said it plans to begin exploring the applications of multimodal large language models (LLMs) \u2014 AI models that can understand text as well as images \u2014 in self-driving through the OpenAI Startup Fund, which provides early access to OpenAI systems and Azure resources from Microsoft, OpenAI\u2019s close collaborator, plus a $5 million investment. TechCrunch reporter Kyle Wiggers found <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/11\/09\/ghost-now-openai-backed-claims-llms-will-overcome-self-driving-setbacks-but-experts-are-skeptical\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">experts were skeptical<\/a> and said LLMs are the wrong tool for self driving.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Motional<\/strong> and <strong>Uber Eats<\/strong> are teaming up to autonomously deliver food from Shake Shack.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Waymo<\/strong> started winter testing its robotaxis in Buffalo, New York.<\/p>\n<h3>Electric vehicles, batteries &amp; charging<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Ram<\/strong> introduced the <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/11\/06\/the-2025-ram-ramcharger-is-an-electric-truck-that-gets-its-ev-juice-from-a-gas-powered-generator\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2025 Ramcharger<\/a> \u2014 an electric truck that gets its EV juice from a gas-powered generator. Based on feedback from some readers, this will be a polarizing vehicle. Some people were incredibly excited and called it the perfect truck; others took offense to the EV branding.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Polestar<\/strong> held its inaugural Polestar Day to showcase its<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/11\/10\/polestar-tackles-softening-ev-demand-with-new-tech-and-next-gen-vehicles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> vision for the future<\/a>: new tech and next-generation vehicles that the Swedish EV company owned by China\u2019s Geely Holdings hopes will spark sales and spur an era of growth. But as contributor Abigail Bassett noted, the event stood in stark contrast to its present.<\/p>\n<h3>Earnings<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Lucid<\/strong> didn\u2019t have the rosiest of earnings reports. The company revised its 2023 production outlook amid softening demand for luxury electric vehicles. Meanwhile, the company jumped on the <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/11\/06\/lucid-adopts-teslas-charging-standard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tesla charging standard<\/a> bandwagon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lyft<\/strong> reported 22.4 million active riders in the third quarter, up from 21.5 million in the second quarter and 19.6 million in the first. The growth suggests that its\u00a0strategy of slashing ride-hail fares to compete with Uber has resulted in slow and steady gains for the company, but competition remains fierce. Tl;dr: he\u2019s eyeing software upcharges around AR and autonomy, not heated seats.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Uber\u2019s <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/11\/07\/ubers-q3-numbers-profitability-gains\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">third-quarter earnings<\/a> show a profitable ride-hail and delivery company that\u2019s chugging along in spite of slowing growth in some sectors.<\/p>\n<h3>Future of flight<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Archer Aviation<\/strong> partnered with India\u2019s travel and hospitality conglomerate InterGlobe Enterprises to launch an <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/11\/09\/archer-aviation-electric-air-taxi-india-launch-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">all-electric air taxi service<\/a> in the country in 2026.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Skyryse<\/strong>, the aviation software startup, completed a fully autorotation emergency landing procedure in a helicopter.
