A dream come true \u2026 sort of! Alexa PenaVega<\/strong><\/a> almost got her \u2018favorite\u2019<\/span> proposal from husband Carlos PenaVega<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 but he got cold feet at the last minute.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThis was actually my husband\u2019s idea and it was the way he wanted to propose to me, but didn\u2019t get to,\u201d Alexa, 34, exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> while promoting her new Hallmark movie, A Paris Proposal<\/em><\/a>. \u201cI thought it was so genius. There\u2019s this water show on this cruise ship \u2014 he was in talks with them and chickened out last minute \u2014\u00a0\u200bwhere in the middle of the show,** the floor [would come] up and then all the acrobats [would] come out of the water and they\u2019re literally lifted out of the water. He wanted to come up out of that while I\u2019m watching the show and propose to me that way.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n While the concept,\u00a0<\/span>which the Spy Kids<\/em> star<\/a> called \u201cwild,\u201d \u201cinsane,\u201d \u201csuper cool and romantic,\u201d never came to fruition, the Big Time Rush singer, 33, still managed to pop the question overseas while the twosome were at dinner with their friends.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Now, the pair have been happily married for almost a decade and share three children: sons Ocean, 5, and Kingston, 3, and daughter Rio, 21 months. They\u2019ve also starred together in\u00a0three movies<\/a> in the Picture Perfect Mysteries<\/em> series for Hallmark Movies & Mysteries and Enchanted Christmas<\/em>, Love at Sea<\/em> and Love in the Limelight<\/em> for Hallmark Channel.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Being able to work alongside her beau is one of the reasons Alexa loves being a part of Hallmark, whom she says has been \u201camazing\u201d to their family<\/a> over the years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThey\u2019ve given us so much amazing creative freedom to be able to bring forth projects that we really love [and] that we\u2019re proud of,\u201d she gushed to Us<\/em>. \u201cEarlier in our careers with Hallmark,** there weren\u2019t many actors who were spouses working together. They were the ones that wanted to give us that opportunity to kind of make that happen. And now you see it a lot more in Hollywood, but six years ago? That wasn\u2019t a thing. You didn\u2019t see a whole lot of husband-wife teams on screen.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The Florida native explained that Hallmark understands<\/a> \u201cfamily values\u201d and \u201cthe importance of keeping family together\u201d \u2014 something that feels especially important with everything that\u2019s happened to the world in the past few years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cYou just can\u2019t help but wanna keep the people that you care about really, really close<\/a>,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd I think we\u2019re gonna see a lot more of that in the future, just across the board in all projects.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The Nashville<\/em> alum has no plans to stop creating alongside her hubby anytime soon \u2014 and told Us<\/em> that the duo are in a \u201cseason\u201d where they are \u201cmore in love than ever.<\/a>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe don\u2019t say that to be, like, cheesy or dorky or whatever. But it\u2019s like, we truly need each other so badly<\/a>. Could he do it on his own? Could I do it on my own? Yeah, but, I need his love,\u201d she shared. \u201cI really need his support and especially in this industry that we\u2019re in and the world that we\u2019re in. You have to surround yourself [with] people who really bring out the best in you. And we do that for each other.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The Spare Parts<\/em> star added that the importance of finding \u201cyour teammate\u201d<\/a> in life cannot be undervalued.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThere isn\u2019t anything else like that feeling because you get to be elevated to the point of, \u2018I feel like nothing can stop me.\u2019 I really do feel unstoppable, but that\u2019s because I know I have a partner where if I trip, he\u2019s gonna catch me and then we\u2019re gonna keep going,\u201d she said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The Sleepover<\/em> actress and boy band member may be an unstoppable duo<\/a>, but that doesn\u2019t mean Alexa is afraid to challenge herself with solo projects. Her latest film, A Paris Proposal<\/em>, took her across the pond to Paris and Bulgaria \u2014 a solo adventure she says was \u201chard,\u201d but needed.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI left my family to go make this movie. And I never do that. We have, like, a very strict two-week rule<\/a>, but because this was filming out of the country \u2026 It just made more sense to allow the family to stay behind on that,\u201d she explained. \u201cBecause of that, it really gave me an opportunity.<\/span><\/p>\n B<\/span>eing on set sans her brood allowed Alexa to spend more time with the cast, attending dinners where they would \u201cgo over their lines for the next day.\u201d The extra bonding time, according to the Tomorrow People<\/em> alum, elevated the film to the next level.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019d talk [a lot] about the scenes and what we could add to it to kind of like make it a little bit more special or maybe a little more unique than Hallmark used to seeing,\u201d she shared. \u201cAnd I think that\u2019s where it really shined. We were able to just do our homework.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
