FLO were left \u2018speechless\u2018 when they were handed their BRIT Awards 2023 Rising Star gong by Jessie J<\/p>\n
The trio \u2013 Jorja Douglas, Stella Quaresma and Renee Downer \u2013 received their trophy on the red carpet at London\u2019s O2 Arena on Saturday (11.02.23) ahead of the event kicking off at 8.30pm.<\/p>\n
When asked how it felt, the singers \u2013 who are at the BRITs for their first time and are the first group to be awarded the Rising Star gong \u2013 said: \u201cReally special. Speechless.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re grateful for everything that\u2019s happening.\u201d<\/p>\n
They added they had festivals, headline slots, a tour and an album on the horizon.<\/p>\n
\nWhen previous Rising Star winner Jessie, 34 \u2013 who was dressed in a cut-out gown designed to show off her growing bare baby bump \u2013 was asked if she had any career advice for the group, she said: \u201cThe most important thing is that you have each other and you have each other\u2019s backs and you\u2019re authentic \u2013 everything else is just noise.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nJessie won the trophy in 2011 and Jorja told The Sun ahead of the ceremony: \u201cWe\u2019re going to see a lot of people, we\u2019re going to be very starstruck.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nIt was announced in December FLO had won the Rising Star award, with the news revealed by Clara Amfo on her BBC Radio 1 \u2018Future Sounds\u2019 show.<\/p>\n
\nThe band said in a joint statement at the time: \u201cFrom growing up watching the BRITs, to finding each other and forming FLO, releasing our first body of work in 2022 and winning a BRIT award in the same year!!<\/p>\n
\n\u201cWe are so shocked and grateful. We are the first group to win the BRITs Rising Star! We\u2019ve just made history and couldn\u2019t have done it without our wonderful fans and supportive families. It\u2019s truly a dream come true.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cWe feel so empowered creating the music we love and we hope others feel that too.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nKid Harpoon, 40, was also handed his Songwriter of the Year gong for his work on Harry Styles\u2019 album Harry\u2018s House ahead of the ceremony.<\/p>\n
\nHe said he \u201cloved\u201d British artists and wanted to work with the likes of Fontaines D.C..<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
