Upload<\/em> season 3 introduced two different versions of Robbie Amell\u2019s<\/strong><\/a> character Nathan \u2014 and director Sarah Boyd<\/strong> was up for the challenge.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think [it\u2019s] really fun and interesting, the characters diverging,\u201d Boyd exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> about filming the third season of the Prime Video series. \u201cYou get to see how Nathan\u2019s life changes him when he is downloaded and [when] he goes back to reality and real life stuff. You also get to see how Nathan\u2019s life changes when Ingrid\u2019s a very different person to him and therefore they can have [a] very different kind of relationship. I love watching those two relationships unfold differently<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Boyd \u2014 who directed episodes 8 and 9 of season 3 \u2014 noted that Amell had no issues when it came to taking on the extra responsibility of portraying two separate Nathans. \u201cRobbie was really dialed into the differences between the two Nathans. He\u2019s well aware what those two Nathans are,\u201d she said, noting that it only got tricky when they had to \u201cremind\u201d themselves about story points while shooting \u201cout of order.\u201d<\/p>\n

Season 3 of Upload<\/em> premiered in September and reunited viewers with Nathan and Nora (Andy Allo<\/strong>) after Nathan was successfully downloaded into his physical body \u2014 and brought back into the real world \u2014 at the end of season 2. As he integrated back into reality, a second backup copy Nathan was uploaded into Lakeview after Horizon couldn\u2019t locate the original. While \u201coriginal\u201d Nathan continued his relationship with Nora on earth, \u201cnew\u201d Nathan reignited his romance with ex-fianc\u00e9e Ingrid<\/a> (Allegra Edwards)<\/strong> after to being put on a \u201cfactory\u201d setting, which doesn\u2019t include memories of Nora.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAmid the WGA and SAG strikes, the fall TV schedule is in for a shakeup with both new and returning shows. Hulu\u2019s The Other Black Girl explores Nella\u2019s (Sinclair Daniel) journey as the only Black woman at a New York City publishing firm. She gets excited when Hazel (Ashleigh Murray) arrives before quickly starting to [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

By the season 3 finale, it\u2019s revealed that two Nathan\u2019s exist, causing Horizon to destroy one version of the character. While one Nathan survives, it\u2019s unclear which \u2014 something even Boyd can\u2019t answer.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was given the task of making the visual element of Nathan unclear purposefully so that really it could be either one,\u201d she told Us<\/em>. \u201cLuckily Nathan physically looks the same, certainly from the neck up.\u201d<\/p>\n

The director said that she was careful to choose a \u201cgray\u201d background for Nathan\u2019s final scene so that no matter where he was, he \u201chad been put in some sort of holding cell\u201d that \u201ccould have happened in either location.\u201d She added that if fans \u201cthink they\u2019ve got the answer, they could be right or they could be wrong. It\u2019s going to be a 50 50 chance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nora and Ingrid certainly will want to know which one of their partners survived, as Ingrid and \u201cnew\u201d Nathan had just gotten engaged, while fan-favorite pairing Nora and \u201coriginal\u201d Nathan made plans for a romantic trip to Montreal.<\/p>\n

Viewers have been waiting for Nora and Nathan to get their happy ending since the series premiered in 2020. It\u2019s the chemistry between Alloh and Amell \u2014 and the magic of the writers room \u2014 that Boyd credits for creating such a popular on screen relationship.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that [Nathan and Nora\u2019s] likability and rooting for them is a product of both the writing and just who Andy and Robbie are as people and obviously as actors,\u201d she said. \u201cYou just gravitate towards wanting to watch them. They\u2019re just incredibly attractive. That sounds superficial, but you lean into that couple and it\u2019s both because they have a lot of heart and over the seasons you want to root for them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Boyd added that it could be the slow-burn dynamic between the couple that keeps viewers coming back for more.<\/p>\n
