\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n Patrick Dempsey<\/strong><\/a> is opening up about navigating family life in Hollywood.<\/p>\n The 57-year-old Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/em> actor was recently crowned People<\/em>\u2018s Sexiest Man Alive<\/a>, and he spoke about his family<\/a> in the cover story. <\/p>\n Patrick <\/strong>and his wife Jillian Fink<\/strong><\/a> share three kids \u2013 Talula<\/strong>, Darby<\/strong>, and Sullivan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n He called it \u201cvery challenging\u201d to raise them around the entertainment industry. <\/p>\n Keep reading to find out what he said\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n The actor explained that his kids \u201cwant to have their own identity, separate from me and that shadow.\u201d He added, \u201cThey all have unique qualities and they have their own goals that they need to develop and harvest themselves and we just try to model our behavior and hopefully they\u2019ll pick up on that.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThey\u2019re all athletic, they like to move,\u201d Patrick <\/strong>continued. \u201cThey are all very disciplined on that and you just try to instill the right values. Hopefully, they have the right manners and when they come back in and other parents go, \u2018Oh your children are very polite,\u2019 you\u2019re like, \u2018That\u2019s nice to hear.\u2019 And you know are they grounded.\u201d<\/p>\n He emphasized that it\u2019s difficult \u201chaving your children grow up in Hollywood and to be in that environment.\u201d<\/p>\n Patrick <\/strong>explained that he recently read about how a healthy environment is important for kids\u2019 development. He noted that he\u2019s \u201ctrying to keep that good, calm, loving, safe environment for them.\u201d<\/p>\n The actor finds it harder to parent teens than younger children. <\/p>\n \u201cBecause you need to be around, but they don\u2019t want you around because they\u2019re fighting for their independence, which they should,\u201d he said. \u201cThey need to find out how they interact in the world, they need to learn those boundaries, they need to make mistakes.
