One of the best deals in travel is the Southwest Companion Pass<\/a>. No other travel perk allows you to create your own buy-one-get-one airfare voucher that can last for nearly two years.<\/p>\n

This pass allows you to bring a partner, child, parent or friend with you on all of your Southwest flights \u2014 for just the cost of taxes and fees on their ticket. Plus, even if you book your Southwest flight with Southwest Rapid Rewards points<\/a>, your designated companion can still come along for the ride using the Southwest Companion Pass.<\/p>\n

That’s an amazing benefit no matter how you slice it \u2014 but you can get the most out of this deal if you time things carefully (more on that in a minute).<\/p>\n

At the beginning of 2023, Southwest implemented changes<\/a> that have made earning the Companion Pass slightly more difficult. The qualifying benchmark is now 135,000 points \u2014 up 10,000 points \u2014 to get the Companion Pass. Luckily, I’ll show you how to secure a Southwest Companion Pass for nearly 24 months (if you hurry).<\/p>\n

How to perfectly time a Southwest Companion Pass<\/h2>\n

Earning the Southwest Companion Pass requires earning 135,000 qualifying points in a calendar year.<\/p>\n

Once you obtain the Companion Pass, it’s valid for the rest of the year in which you earn plus the entire next calendar year. Thus, if you earn the Companion Pass in November or December 2023, it will be valid through the rest of 2023 and all of 2024. However, if you earn the Companion Pass in January 2024, then it will be valid until the end of 2025 \u2014 nearly two years of validity.<\/p>\n
