Kelly Clarkson<\/strong><\/a> knows it\u2019s nice to have a friend like Taylor Swift<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe just sent me flowers,\u201d Clarkson, 41, told E! News<\/em><\/a> in an interview published on Thursday, November 9. \u201cShe\u2019s so nice. She did. She was like, \u2018Every time I release something\u2019 \u2014 because she just did 1989<\/em>. I got that really cute cardigan, too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Swift\u2019s kind gesture is likely a thank you of sorts. In 2019, Swift\u2019s masters were infamously sold to Scooter Braun\u2019s<\/strong> <\/a>media company, Ithaca Holdings, by the singer\u2019s former label Big Machine Records for $300 million. Through the deal, Braun, 42, became the owner of Swift\u2019s first six albums with Big Machine Records: her self-titled debut, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989<\/em> and Reputation<\/em>. (They were later sold to Shamrock Holdings.)<\/p>\n

At the time, Swift publicly condemned the sale and claimed that she had been asking to buy her masters for years but wasn\u2019t given the opportunity. After news of Braun\u2019s sale made headlines, it was Clarkson who took to social media to suggest a way Swift could take back her music.<\/p>\n

The drama came to a head in June 2019 when it was announced that Braun\u2019s media company, Ithaca Holdings, had acquired Scott Borchetta\u2019s Big Machine Label Group for $300 million. \u201cJust a thought, U should go in & re-record all the songs that U don\u2019t own the masters on exactly how U did them but put brand new art & some kind of incentive so fans will no longer buy the old versions,\u201d she wrote via X (formerly Twitter) <\/a>in July 2019. \u201cI\u2019d buy all of the new versions just to prove a point.\u201d<\/p>\n

Four months later, Swift revealed her plans to rerelease her music<\/a> and has since dropped four of the six albums: Fearless (Taylor\u2019s Version), Red (Taylor\u2019s Version),<\/em> and Speak Now (Taylor\u2019s Version)<\/em>, dropped in April 2021, October 2021 and July 2023, respectively, while 1989 (Taylor\u2019s Version)<\/em> hit shelves last month.<\/a><\/p>\n

While speaking to E!<\/em> On Thursday, Clarkson praised Swift\u2019s kindness and intelligence and maintained that the Grammy winner would have come up with the idea to rerecord on her own.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s a very smart businesswoman. So, she would have thought of that,\u201d Clarkson said. \u201cBut it just sucks when you see artists that you admire and you respect really wanting something and it\u2019s special to them. You know if they\u2019re going to find a loophole, you find a loophole. And she did it and literally is, like, the best-selling artist I feel like of all-time now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clarkson also gushed over Swift\u2019s fanbase \u2014 known as Swifties \u2014 getting behind the project to support her. \u201cShe\u2019s known for being such an incredible songwriter and the soundtrack to a lot of people\u2019s lives and that\u2019s her life,\u201d she continued. \u201cSo you should have the option<\/a> of owning that.\u201d<\/p>\n
