There\u2019s always a slimmer, more power-efficient PlayStation or Xbox on the way. Nintendo has long hammered out attractive new combos of size, screen, color, and battery life for its Game Boy, DS, and Switch.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">But Valve, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/e\/23715715\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new Steam Deck OLED<\/a>, may have created the best console revision ever.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">It fixes my biggest complaints about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/23513517\/steam-deck-long-term-test-valve\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Valve\u2019s original handheld gaming PC<\/a> and then some, without any new catch. Starting at $549 for 512GB of storage, it only costs $20 more than last year\u2019s model with half that capacity \u2014 or you can pay the same $649 as last year\u2019s 512GB to get 1TB now.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">But don\u2019t let the name fool you: unlike Nintendo\u2019s Switch OLED, the new Steam Deck isn\u2019t just a new screen and extra storage. It\u2019s a new battery, new chip, new cooling, a new 90Hz refresh rate, and well over a dozen other substantive changes. Almost all make the Steam Deck OLED <em>hands-down <\/em>better than the original. It\u2019s so much better, I wouldn\u2019t buy an original Steam Deck anymore.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin some idea: \u201c<em>Cyberpunk<\/em> is running <em>faster<\/em>, more <em>stable<\/em>, <em>cooler<\/em>, <em>quieter<\/em>, while drawing <em>less<\/em> power from a <em>larger<\/em> battery and looking <em>brighter<\/em> and <em>clearer<\/em> and <em>better<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup mb-16 pl-12 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1\">Still not a stable platform for the \u201cit should just work\u201d crowd<\/li>\n<li class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup mb-16 pl-12 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1\">Valve is still figuring out refresh rate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<div In September, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/9\/21\/23884863\/valve-steam-deck-2-refresh-upgrade-cpu-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Valve told <em>The Verge<\/em> it wouldn\u2019t make the Steam Deck faster anytime soon<\/a>, despite the fact that rival handhelds with faster processors can now get far more playable results in demanding games like <em>Starfield<\/em> and <em>Star Wars Jedi: Survivor<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component clear-both block w-full md:ml-[-100px] md:w-outdent\">\n<div class=\"my-9\">\n<p><figcaption class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup inline text-gray-13 dark:text-gray-e9 [&amp;&gt;a:hover]:text-black [&amp;&gt;a:hover]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;&gt;a:hover]:text-gray-e9 dark:[&amp;&gt;a:hover]:shadow-underline-gray-63 [&amp;&gt;a]:shadow-underline-gray-13 dark:[&amp;&gt;a]:shadow-underline-gray-63\"><em>The orange power button and black sticks are the only way to tell it from the original at a glance.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">But while an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/23719210\/asus-rog-ally-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Asus ROG Ally<\/a> does have more headroom for newer games, it struggles to play them nearly as long.<em> <\/em>With the Steam Deck OLED, Valve is extending its battery life lead, advertising three to 12 hours of gameplay compared to two to eight hours previously. And while you can absolutely drain it in less than three, I\u2019m always feeling <em>far<\/em> more comfortable about how much gas is in the tank.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">For example: in 2022, I was able to play the graphically intensive <em>Control <\/em>for just under two hours on my original Steam Deck review unit at 60 frames per second. This past week, I played the same game at up to 80 frames per second for two hours, 11 minutes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">I played an hour and 15 minutes of 2D titles <a href=\"https:\/\/go.redirectingat.com\/?xs=1&amp;id=1025X1701640&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fstore.steampowered.com%2Fapp%2F312530%2FDuck_Game%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Duck Game<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/go.redirectingat.com\/?xs=1&amp;id=1025X1701640&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fstore.steampowered.com%2Fapp%2F207140%2FSpeedRunners%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>SpeedRunners<\/em><\/a> with some old friends, chatting on Discord all the while, and had 84 percent battery left in the tank when I finished. With 70 percent remaining as I write these words, my Deck OLED review unit is telling me I can play<em> Slay the Spire<\/em> for <em>seven more hours<\/em> since it\u2019s consistently drawing just 5.3 watts now. <em>Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time<\/em> looks like it\u2019ll last eight hours total, up from five or so previously.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">I also played over three hours of <em>Nier: Automata<\/em> over the course of two days without returning to a plug \u2014 two of those hours at 60fps. When the Deck said I only had 30 percent battery left and 37 more minutes to play, I simply dropped the frame rate to 45fps and, later, 30fps to nearly double that remaining playtime \u2014 getting another entire hour and 10 minutes before the Deck shut down. (At 45fps, three hours of <em>Control<\/em> is also definitely within reach.)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">How? A more efficient chip, larger battery, a 90Hz OLED screen \u2014 and generally, the decision to pull a Nintendo with the new Steam Deck.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component clear-both block w-full md:ml-[-100px] md:w-outdent\">\n<div class=\"my-9\">\n<p><figcaption class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup inline text-gray-13 dark:text-gray-e9 [&amp;&gt;a:hover]:text-black [&amp;&gt;a:hover]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;&gt;a:hover]:text-gray-e9 dark:[&amp;&gt;a:hover]:shadow-underline-gray-63 [&amp;&gt;a]:shadow-underline-gray-13 dark:[&amp;&gt;a]:shadow-underline-gray-63\"><em>The Steam Deck\u2019s new, thicker heatsink and fan. Please gently yank the battery cable before you open the secondary cover, and don\u2019t forget to remove your microSD before you open a Steam Deck at all.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">AMD shrunk down its 7nm \u201cAerith\u201d chip into a new 6nm \u201cSephiroth,\u201d and Valve pointed almost all of that efficiency toward power savings rather than performance, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2019\/8\/16\/20809107\/new-nintendo-switch-battery-life-screen-joystick-teardown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">just like Nintendo and Nvidia<\/a> did with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2019\/8\/12\/20802539\/nintendo-switch-v2-new-updated-battery-console-how-to-buy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">red box<\/a> Nintendo Switch.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">And like Nintendo with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/games\/22711889\/nintendo-switch-oled-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Switch OLED<\/a>, Valve didn\u2019t waste performance or battery life on higher screen resolution \u2014 it contracted Samsung to build a custom 90Hz HDR OLED panel at the same 1280 x 800 resolution as the original.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">And because that new screen was thinner, Valve managed to fit a thicker heatsink, larger fan, and a 22 percent higher capacity 50 watt-hour battery pack into the same space.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">Depending on the content, the OLED screen alone can save over half a watt, according to Valve \u2014 and overall, I\u2019m seeing big games draw two watts fewer on the Steam Deck OLED compared to the Steam Deck LCD, at 24W, where the original drew 26 or 27. There are exceptions:<em> Nidhogg<\/em> consumed 7.2W on OLED versus 6W on LCD at the same 60fps, and <em>Max Payne 2 <\/em>drew roughly the same 10W on each.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">But the bigger battery means games last longer anyhow. And I won\u2019t say I didn\u2019t see mysterious stutter in other games because I absolutely did. But in <em>Cyberpunk 2077<\/em>, <em>Elden Ring<\/em>, <em>Deus Ex: Mankind Divided,<\/em> and yes, even <em>Starfield,<\/em> I saw very slightly higher frame rates and fewer frame time spikes for more stable gameplay than the OG Deck \u2014 and I believe I\u2019m seeing similar stability in less intensive games, too. (And if you ask me, playing an old game at a buttery smooth 80 or 90 frames per second definitely counts as more performance than the old Deck\u2019s 60fps maximum.)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">The fan is also whisper-quiet now, fixing one of the biggest issues with the original. The entire handheld runs cooler. It simply <em>doesn\u2019t get <\/em>uncomfortably hot, even after fully draining the battery with an intensive game. The battery charges faster, at least relatively speaking: while the OLED model actually took over 30 minutes longer than my LCD model to completely top off, I saw it take its larger battery from 2 percent to 80 percent in just 71 minutes \u2014 compared to 99 minutes for the LCD model. I find it\u2019s a tad harder to zip up \u2014 but the small version is actually useful.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">There\u2019s also Wi-Fi 6E for faster downloads, with two antennas for 2.4GHz and either 5GHz or faster 6GHz simultaneously. My home network\u2019s still on Wi-Fi 6, but I\u2019m still seeing respectable 500Mbps-plus downloads straight from Valve\u2019s servers. The Deck also has a dedicated Bluetooth antenna now \u2014 and while I haven\u2019t yet tested Valve\u2019s claim that it better supports multiple simultaneous wireless gamepads for couch games, I am <em>so happy<\/em> to confirm the Deck finally supports Bluetooth microphones for chat. The shoulder buttons and Steam \/ Quick Access buttons are clickier. The reds, the blues, the yellows \u2014 the entire game\u2019s art direction just explodes off the screen even though it\u2019s not an HDR game. I could say the same about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/22159911\/hades-best-game-2020-nintendo-switch-supergiant-pc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Hades<\/em><\/a>. I can\u2019t wait to try <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/23589879\/hi-fi-rush-making-of-interview-xbox\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Hi-Fi Rush<\/em><\/a>, particularly since Valve\u2019s also made the speakers noticeably louder here.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">Technically, this screen may be better than my LG OLED television: I\u2019ll defer to display nerds with professional colorimeters on that, but I do know I\u2019ve yet to use an OLED that boasts <em>110 percent<\/em> (not 100 percent, not 99 percent) of the DCI-P3 color gamut, reaches 1,000 nits of HDR peak brightness, and yet still manages to pump out 600 nits of full-screen SDR brightness, too.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">Functionally, that means the Steam Deck OLED always gets brighter than the Steam Deck LCD in every situation \u2014 and in HDR, your games finally have <em>real<\/em> light. The neon lights in <em>Cyberpunk 2077 <\/em>look like actual neon tubes! There\u2019s no HDR Netflix, no HDR YouTube, no other HDR streaming services I\u2019m aware of on Linux. My rough understanding is that HDR on Linux is a bit of a Wild West, and Valve is helping build some of the first settlements out there.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">And as much as I prefer the incredible response time, clarity, blacks, and color of an OLED screen, there\u2019s something left to be desired from the screen\u2019s refresh rate(s) compared to, say, the Asus competition.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">Valve display tech expert Jeremy Selan tells me that variable refresh rate (VRR) \u201cdidn\u2019t quite make it into this revision,\u201d so the Steam Deck OLED can still easily run into stutter when games can\u2019t keep up with the refresh rate you select. And while you <em>can<\/em> now select from an incredible range of frame rates all the way from 10fps to 90fps, some of which divide nicely into the refresh rates Valve\u2019s new screen supports, I\u2019m finding it takes a lot of trial and error to see which games work with which refresh options. 30fps should scale beautifully to 90Hz, but I\u2019m only seeing that work in some titles. Even 60\/60 wasn\u2019t perfectly smooth in everything I\u2019ve tried.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">I would not buy an Asus ROG Ally over a Steam Deck, but the don\u2019t-have-to-think-about-it VRR ability is one of two things I prefer about Asus. (The other is a turbo mode to get extra performance when I plug into the wall. Valve says turbo mode complicates things and requires overdesigned components. \u201cWe don\u2019t want to use up our weight and budget on things that might not be useful to you,\u201d Aldehayyat tells me.)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">But there\u2019s no question that the new Deck\u2019s screen is leagues better than the original\u2019s. During my review period alone, Valve added multiple missing features (like Bluetooth microphone support and louder speakers), squashed several major bugs (like nonworking internal microphones and audio stutter on resume), and changed how the battery-saving frame limiter works. Reviewers are working with beta software, and I had one mysterious blackscreen. My colleague Vjeran Pavic had another while filming our review video.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">But while the original Deck was shoved out the door <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/22950371\/valve-steam-deck-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">months before it was ready<\/a>, I feel far more confident recommending this one, and I\u2019d argue Valve has more than earned the benefit of the doubt. It\u2019s shipped over 300 updates to the original Steam Deck over the past 21 months, transforming it from <a href=\"https:\/\/go.redirectingat.com\/?xs=1&amp;id=1025X1701640&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D0w64KhTguWA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a glorious mess<\/a> into a genre-defining handheld.
