It originated from the Sichuan (hence the name) province of China, and it\u2019s known for its sauce that is thick, tangy, slightly sweet with a bit of a kick. It\u2019s a perfect blend of heat, tanginess, and umami flavors that make it an absolutely amazing meal.<\/p>\n<p>This recipe is great for busy weeknights \u2013 make the multi-dimensional marinade ahead of time, prep the beef and veggies, and then it\u2019s just a quick stir fry to dinner! It\u2019s wonderful served over\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/therecipecritic.com\/instant-pot-rice\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">steamed rice<\/a>\u00a0or <a href=\"https:\/\/therecipecritic.com\/easy-fried-rice\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">easy fried rice<\/a> to help temper the heat. I typically use vegetable oil because it has a neutral flavor and a high smoke point.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vegetables:\u00a0<\/strong>To give this meal plenty of color, fresh flavor, and heartiness, we\u2019re stirring in diced yellow onion, sugar snap peas, chopped broccoli and sliced red bell peppers. Feel free to switch any of these out with what you have in your fridge!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Garlic:<\/strong> Adds extra savory flavor.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Szechuan Sauce:<\/strong> Use this homemade <a href=\"https:\/\/therecipecritic.com\/szechuan-sauce\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">Szechuan sauce<\/a> to make the flavor of this dish even more wonderful!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-make-szechuan-beef\">How to Make Szechuan Beef<\/h2>\n<p>This recipe for Szechuan beef is so simple! Mix your sauce, heat up your wok, and then cook all of your ingredients together! You\u2019ll have a flavorful meal ready in no time. Here\u2019s how:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Prep:<\/strong> Slice the flank steak into \u00bc inch slices about 3 inches long. Prep all your vegetables and set them aside.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Marinate the Steak:<\/strong> In a large freezer bag, mix together the black vinegar, soy sauce, Chinese five spice, and cornstarch. Add the flank steak to the bag and shake to coat evenly. Let the steak marinate for at least 30 minutes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sear the Beef:<\/strong> In a large skillet or wok, heat 2 tablespoons vegetable oil up over medium high heat. Add the marinated steak to the wok and sear the beef until it is all browned on each side. Don\u2019t cook it for too long though, it will finish cooking with the vegetables.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Saut\u00e9 the Vegetables:<\/strong> Remove the steak from the wok, add in another tablespoon of vegetable oil, onions, sugar peas, broccoli, and peppers. Saut\u00e9 until the vegetables have begun to tenderize and the onions are transparent.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Combine Veggies and Beef:<\/strong> Add in the garlic, and the seared beef, saut\u00e9 for a few minutes. Reduce the heat to medium.
