It kind of started to feel like the point of The We Company, lofty language about \u201celevating\u201d one\u2019s \u201cconsciousness\u201d aside, was just to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/wework-co-founder-has-cashed-out-at-least-700-million-from-the-company-11563481395\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">give Adam Neumann money<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">The company eventually went public in 2021 via a special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC \u2014 if you\u2019re not familiar, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/21502700\/spac-explained-meaning-special-purpose-acquisition-company\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">we can explain<\/a>), and after struggling with increasing debts and hefty losses ever since, it lost <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/business-67281739\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">almost 98 percent<\/a> of its stock valuation in the last year and shares were trading at 83 cents before a halt early Monday. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">In the press release announcing its Chapter 11 filing, the company says, \u201cAs part of today\u2019s filing, WeWork is requesting the ability to reject the leases of certain locations, which are largely non-operational and all affected members have received advanced notice.\u201d The company says it has reached restructuring agreements with creditors holding 92 percent of its debt.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">An increase in remote working following the covid pandemic is credited as a contributing factor in WeWork\u2019s fall from financial grace, as well as its massive operational costs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">On October 30th, <a href=\"https:\/\/d18rn0p25nwr6d.cloudfront.net\/CIK-0001813756\/75fb45d7-d40d-4f34-95e0-51188ec72bb8.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WeWork told the US Securities and Exchange Commission<\/a> that it had made agreements with creditors to temporarily postpone some of its debt payments.
