Initially, the show had been renewed for a second season following its May 2019 premiere, but was eventually canceled amid the COVID-19 pandemic.\u00a0Keep reading for more details on the show\u2019s cancellation.\u00a0<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n Starring Kathryn Newton<\/strong><\/a> and Olivia DeJonge<\/strong><\/a>, among others, the show followed \u201ca group of teenagers who are mysteriously transported to a facsimile of their wealthy New England town, left without any trace of their parents,\u201d according to Netflix\u2019s official logline.<\/p>\n As they struggle to figure out what has happened to them and how to get home, they must establish order and form alliances if they want to survive,\u201d the description continued.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve made the difficult decision not to move forward with second seasons of The Society<\/em> and I Am Not Okay With This<\/em>,\u201d the streaming service shared in a statement to Deadline<\/em><\/a> in August 2020.\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re disappointed to have to make these decisions due to circumstances created by COVID, and we are grateful to these creators \u2026\u00a0and all the writers, casts and crews who worked tirelessly to make these shows for our members around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n The show\u2019s creator, Christopher Keyser<\/strong>, was quick to react to the news at the time.<\/p>\n \u201cWe spent the last bunch of months getting ready to go back again, dealing with all the COVID protocols,\u201d he told\u00a0Variety<\/em><\/a>. \u201cAnd then I got a call from Netflix saying, \u2018We have made this decision.\u2019 It was obviously pretty upsetting and abrupt.\u201d<\/p>\n While Christopher told\u00a0Variety<\/em> that it was \u201ca little too soon\u201d for him to reveal any possible season 2 details, he did say that the planned second season<\/a> would have followed \u201cthe establishment of what we called the \u2018outpost,\u2019 and the eventual conflict between the outpost and the town over control.\u201d<\/p>\n Some of the other established storylines were set to be explored as well. While the cancellation upset fans and the show\u2019s stars, no other streaming service or network picked up the series<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s only been a day, so I haven\u2019t even thought about it in a meaningful way,\u201d Christopher added about saving the show at the time. \u201cObviously, no one wants to see the story they\u2019re writing end, and I would like the characters not to end up as the children of New Ham \u2014 to have disappeared suddenly, abruptly, never to be seen again.
