Hello, Ellie? Jenna Ortega<\/strong><\/a> may have been absent from the last two seasons of You<\/em> <\/a>\u2014 but that doesn\u2019t mean viewers will never see her face on the Netflix hit again.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cAny character who\u2019s not dead who knows anything about Joe, it\u2019s fair game to try to exert any justice,\u201d showrunner Sera Gamble<\/strong><\/a> told IndieWire<\/em><\/a> in an interview published on Thursday, February 9. \u201cAnd any character who is dead, [Joe] has a really active imagination.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Ortega, 20, starred opposite Penn Badgley<\/strong><\/a> on season 2 of the psychological thriller, which premiered in December 2019. The Scream<\/em> actress<\/a> portrayed Ellie, a friend of Joe\u2019s (Badgley), who miraculously escapes with her life.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n While Gamble, 39, told the outlet on Thursday that she initially \u201cwanted to bring Ellie back,\u201d she ultimately heard that Ortega was \u201cdoing some show\u201d \u2014 fellow Netflix series Wednesday<\/em> \u2014 and wouldn\u2019t be available to film.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Despite not reprising her role for You\u2019s<\/em> fourth season, Gamble couldn\u2019t be more proud of Ortega\u2019s success.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s been just such a pleasure to see Jenna this year<\/a>,\u201d the showrunner gushed of the Fallout<\/em> star. \u201cWe have ideas for Ellie if her schedule allows her to visit us again. \u2026 These are some busy, in-demand actors.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Ortega, for her part, previously revealed she would be open to returning to the series \u2014 but only under a few conditions.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t want her to come back and be extremely vulnerable and sad,\u201d she told Teen People<\/em><\/a> in 2019. \u201cWe have to remember that even though people still find Joe somewhat charming, he\u2019s evil, he does terrible things and he gets away with them because of his gender and race and his position in society.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The California native added that she would love to see Ellie become an \u201ceven bigger badass\u201d and \u201ctake control of her life\u201d after ending the season by moving to Florida. \u201cShe has so much potential and so much talent that she shouldn\u2019t waste because of him,\u201d she explained at the time.<\/span><\/p>\n For now, Ortega is focused on her portrayal of Wednesday \u2014 a performance that earned her a 2023<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Golden Globe nomination for Best Television Actress in a Musical\/Comedy Series.<\/a> It\u2019s a role the Yes Day<\/em> star takes seriously.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
