Leading by example. Melanie Lynskey<\/strong><\/a> has been candid about embracing her body<\/a> through the years.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s been a very long journey. I fought against it for a very long time \u2014 the shape that my body\u2019s supposed to be,\u201d the\u00a0Candy\u00a0<\/i><\/a>star confessed during a June 2022 interview with\u00a0<\/i>theSkimm<\/a>. \u201c[It\u2019s] hard to be a size 10 next to a size 0. I spent many years not really eating and being very worried about what I look like.\u201d<\/p>\n Lynskey, who admitted to struggling with an eating disorder<\/a> as a teenager, explained that suffering a miscarriage made her see her body<\/a> in a new light.<\/p>\n \u201cA couple of years ago, I had a\u00a0miscarriage\u00a0and I just didn\u2019t really recover from it physically and having a very young daughter made me really think about: \u2018OK,\u00a0I need to be kinder to myself and accepting and saying sorry to my body for what it just went through,\u2019\u201d the\u00a0Sweet Home Alabama\u00a0<\/i>actress<\/a> said at the time, noting that she wanted to give her daughter<\/a>, whom she welcomed with husband<\/a> Jason Ritter<\/strong><\/a> in December 2018, a \u201cpositive example of what it looks like to have a mother who just is accepting her body<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n While Lynskey has learned to love her curves, she\u2019s been frequently criticized by others<\/a> for her appearance.<\/p>\n \u201cHer body says life of luxury \u2026 not post apocolyptic [sic] warlord. Where is [Terminator\u00a0<\/i>star]\u00a0Linda Hamilton<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>when you need her?\u201d former\u00a0America\u2019s Next Top Model<\/a>\u00a0<\/i>champ Adrianne Curry<\/strong><\/a> tweeted in February 2023, alleging that Lynskey wasn\u2019t the right fit to play Kathleen on HBO\u2019s\u00a0The Last of Us, <\/i>which premiered one month prior<\/a>.<\/p>\n The New Zealand native, for her part, quickly clapped back at Curry\u2019s claims<\/a>. She wrote via Twitter<\/a>: \u201cI\u2019m playing a person who meticulously planned & executed an overthrow of FEDRA. I am supposed to be SMART<\/a>, ma\u2019am. I don\u2019t\u00a0need to be muscly. That\u2019s what henchmen are for.\u201d<\/p>\n She continued at the time: \u201cI\u2019m also grateful because the love and support I receive from you all is so overwhelming and powerful \u2014 I feel like we are a community and I feel very seen and loved. I\u2019m so grateful to Craig and Neil for creating a truly new character. Someone I have never seen before. And for trusting me with her. \u2026 The thing that excited me most about doing #TheLastOfUs is that my casting suggested the possibility of a future in which people start listening to the person with the best ideas.\u201d<\/p>\n Not only has Lynskey stood up for herself against trolls<\/a>, but she also has the support of the\u00a0Parenthood\u00a0<\/i><\/a>alum, whom she married in 2020<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cIf anyone has any further unsolicited comments about *anybody* else\u2019s body, they can feel free to write them in permanent ink onto their own foreheads and swan dive directly into the sun,\u201d Ritter tweeted in January 2022<\/a>, cosigning one of the\u00a0Yellowjackets\u00a0<\/i>star\u2019s<\/a> past clapbacks over criticism about her appearance.<\/p>\n
